However, on occasion, it could be deadly. Abraham and Sidbury/Nicholas/Biermann off the edge, plus Anderson, Babs and Jerry, with a Lofton blitz, would be pretty scary on 3rd and long.

Well, we're all extremely worried about our run D since Grady is gone. If we did have a good 3-4 NT and another good 3-4 MLB, it is already basically setup for that scheme.

um, what? we will not be a big 3-4. maybe 5-8 snaps a game out of the look, which will probably feature this allignment:
LE - Jerry - 6'2" 299
NT - Lewis - 6'3" 320
RE - Anderson - 6'6" 282
WOLB - Abraham - 6'4" 266
WILB - Nicholas - 6'3" 232
SILB - Lofton - 6'0" 248
SOLB - Sidbury - 6'2" 266
that actually looks kind of solid tbh. still, we would need to bring in a big fatty for the NT spot, and I just don't see us doing it, that said, 3rd down when we run our 3-3-5 I expect to see this look:
LE - Sidbury
NT - Babineaux or Jerry
RE - Abraham
WLB - Nicholas
MLB - Lofton
SLB - Peterson

like I detailed earlier, we have some personnel for that scheme.
Positions guys owuld play in the 3-4 IMO:
3-4 DE:
Babineaux
Jerry
Anderson
3-4 NT:
Lewis
Walker (would have to bulk up a bit)
3-4 OLB:
Abraham
Sidbury
Biermann
3-4 Mike:
Nicholas
Adkins
3-4 Ted:
Lofton
Gilbert
The Mike is the roving LB, the Ted is the Pounding LB.
guys that don't fit the 3-4 on our roster BTW:
Davis
Jefferson
Wire
Peterson
James

Yeah I have been saying we're heading towards a 3-4 for awhile now, just not around here. Jammal Anderson would be a good 3-4 DE, too. Sidbury & Abe coming off the edge, could be really nice.

we're not heading towards a 3-4. we don't have the ability to make the switch. non of our guys really fit the 3-4 well outside of Lofton and Anderson

Which kind of goes to my point, we've been drafting 3-4 guys the last couple/few years. I could see us running it a lot more than you would expect this year, but I doubt we change to it for another year or two. It will benefit Abe to get him into a pass rush OLB position as he gets older.
Obviously, not having a NT will prevent us from going that way full time unless Lewis really shows out this year, but I'm not as sold on him as some others are.

no we haven't been drafting 3-4 guys.
Lofton = 4-3 MLB primarily with ability to play 3-4 TED
James = 4-3 exclusive WLB
Biermann = 4-3 DE/3-4 OLB
Jerry = 4-3 exclusive NT/UT
Sidbury = 4-3 exclusive DE (can't cover)
Walker = 4-3 Exclusive NT/UT
We won't run a 3-4. Mike Smith doesn't run the 3-4. We will never move to a full 3-4 as long as Smitty is here. he's a born and raised 4-3 guy and loves the idea of 2 DT's, not one.

You were always fun to argue with....lol
Anderson - Richard Seymour size & athleticism, ideal for a long term 3-4 RDE solution.
Lofton - great size and lack of ideal speed make him a perfect fit at 3-4 MLB, especially as he matures physically.
Sidbury - ideal speed and lack of size makes him a perfect 3-4 pass rushing OLB, and anyone can drop into a zone coverage....just don't risk putting him on an island.
Babs - great fit as a 3-4 LDE or, obviously, 4-3 UT.
Abe - would benefit from 3-4 OLB transition as he gets older....plus it would free him up to make more plays (see Harrison, Ware, Porter, et al).
Lewis & Moorehead - could rotate at either 4-3 or 3-4 NT.
I really think if either of those guys could step up at 3-4 NT then we could have a nasty front 7 to our D...but I guess we already do, sort of, so it might not change anytime soon.

Moorehead is a 4-3 UT and he was cut. at 999 he would never be able to play in the 4-3 NT spot.
Sidbury can't play in Zone either.
Anderson is only 282. not really big enough for the 3-4.
Abe would be horrible in the 3-4 as well since he can't cover. the guys you listed are all career 3-4 OLB's.

Cut, wasn't he slated to be the opening day starter? WTF! lol
Those guys I listed never cover anyone, well almost never. They're all just DE's with different labels. Anderson could put on a few pounds without any problem, if need be. Oh, and anyone can play a zone, you just drop into your zone and cover anyone that comes through it until they leave it....it's pretty simple.

Prodigy, it's not that simple. the one thing I know extremely well is defensive schemes, and we just don't have the personnel to run a base 3-4.
