Granted, Texas is about 3 times bigger in size & population (of any other state not named California) & has a 5-tiered HS system to accommodate its several hundred thousand HS players, where HS football is an secular religion & an iconic institution......... see Friday Night Lights. With recruiting & technology at such a high level now the big BCS programs recruit pretty much the whole country, not too many exclusively regional or instate recruiting programs in the BCS now, none anymore in the top 10, that's cause & effect at work there.

Best player: Chuck Foreman RB The Frederick native was a true all-purpose back and made the Pro Bowl five times between 1973 and 1980. The former Vikings great was the 1973 Associated Press NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year, twice led the league in total touchdowns and came within 6 yards of leading the NFC in both receptions (73) and rushing yards in 1975, when he had 22 total touchdowns. Injuries derailed his career, and he finished with 5,950 rushing yards and 53 rushing touchdowns, averaging 3.8 yards per attempt, while catching 350 passes for 3,156 yards and 23 receiving touchdowns.
