Cullen Jenkins
Hey, I saw this guy started as an UDFA and he has made a name for himself.
Just wondering what type of a player he is, and your thoughts on him.
Is he a penetrator? Will he work well in the Cover-2? Can he stop the run? What round pick would he be worth? Was he disruptive? Is he underrated? Is he a Top10-20 DT?
Thanks guys

For one thing, he's not available, he was signed to a 4-year contract last week.
He rotated at DT and DE last season, and he'll split time at those positions next year: DE on rushing downs and DT on passing downs.
As a DT, he's undersized and somewhat of a liability in the running game. He'd have to bulk up to be an effective full time DT, but that would sacrifice his pass rush. He has superb pass rushing skills for a DT. He's good in pursuit as a DT.
As a DE, he's more of a 3-4 end, but effective on running downs in the 4-3. His role reverses at DE, he becomes above average at stopping the run, and becomes somewhat of a liability rushing the passer. If he lost 10-15 pounds, he'd become a very good rusher, but once again be a liability in the run game.
In all, he's a very good hybrid player for a base 4-3. As for playing in a Cover-2, he hasn't done it before, but I'd imagine he'd be just as good. We'll find out how good he actually is next season, and by then his role will be solidified. As it is now, his best role is as a DE on rushing downs and a DT on passing downs.

In shorter terms he's the final piece to our defensive line :)

Is he a penetrator? I don't know you would have to ask his wife.

Thanks for the info, he seems like a great player to have at DT on passing downs. Would he be worth maybe a 4th round pick? More? Less?

He's worth more than a 4th rounder

I really like Jenkins and I hope he takes over full time at DE this season and replaces KGB. he started off as Kris Jenkins little brother but has made a name for himself on his own. I'm happy about the contract we gave him.
4th round pick? I'd say a 2nd rounder would be more accurate.

Jenkins has a similar skillset to Kampman, although he's not quite as good
of a pass rusher as Kampman. He's a real solid young player, great attitude, very versatile, and an extremely hard worker. I really like his potential at DE.

Do you think he can start as an UT for a Cover-2 team?

I don't know, maybe. I don't see why you want to know though as he won't be going anywhere for a while.
