That's what happens when you let the marketeers run the ship ... they call Marketing the Dark Side for a reason.

Much like the rest of American Big Business, the NFL became all about the market, which means all about greed & the bottom line. Things like quality were reduced to microcosms of their former went away, & everything becomes more bottom line-driven & < humane. Classic short-term gain for long-term pain, ultimately this game is all about the players, not the owners & profit margins. At some point fans become disgusted with their favorite players were treated or that 18 games in a season with 10 or 12 played outside the country are just too much, or the fans realize that they're being dissed with an inferior quality product. But the league is deluded by an ever-increasing willingness of the fans to buy all these sports trinkets, that & rolling in way, way too much TV revenue income has skewed their values with their skyrocketing profits -- they seem to have a fanbase with no limits so there was no incentive to improve the quality. For example see the recent rules changes that tip the balance grotesquely in favor of the offenses b/c their surveys all said the fans want passing intensive, higher scoring games, & that eroded the quality of competition IMO. 1.

I'm not hijacking the theme of this thread, getting off soapbox now..... expansion of the league, increasing the regular season games & moving teams is a major factor in changing the basic nature of the NFL, maybe the league should ask the J-ville fans how they feel about their team in LA.... 2. they won't though.
1. How has it eroded the quality of competition? If anything this has been the most exciting decade of football we have every seen. Complete parity, top to bottom, with exciting playoff games and Super Bowls. Now I know there are 'purists' who claim that a 12-9 football game is "exciting" but it isn't to the majority of fans. The offensive nature of today's game has exponentially increased popularity by means of fantasy sports.

2. Why should they? The Jaguars, even when they are playoff contenders, cannot sell out their stadium. That fan base has done nothing to support their very own NFL team.

Parity is a lie. Just because a team makes the playoffs once or twice in a decade doesn't mean there is parity.

also, Flyboy, the location of the stadium is on that website.

No, likely a swap with the Rams.

Why should the Chiefs move out of the AFC West with their long history in the Div?

True, but the City of Industry approved a stadium that will be built as soon as a team commits to moving to Los Angeles.

Terminological quibble:

The fan base in and of itself is healthy and strong. The problem with it is that it is too small. Whether that's a marketing issue, economic issue, or liking-college-more issue is up for debate, but the fan base in and of itself is fine. It's just too small.

Wayne Weaver isn't selling the team, we're not going to LA

The Rams going back to LA is the NFL's best bet to having a team back in LA

There will be a team in Los Angeles by 2012. Guaranteed. It just makes too much sense not to move there if you play in a lousy market like Jacksonville or Buffalo (no offense to those living there).

KC would never be kicked out of the West...more likely Jags would switch to the NFC and boot the Rams to the AFC South.

Fair point, sir. I guess I should have referred to it as a community.

Why would they need to change anything? Last time I checked Los Angeles is south, just on the west coast in stead. We've had mismatched divisions for years now.

Yeah but it's still a cross country trip, that's not right for interdivisional play.

I disagree, I think the NFL thinks the Jaguars are a small mkt. expendable team, whether they're missed in J-ville is not an important factor.

If they do move their future in LA will be bleak for awhile, they will be like a losing expansion team, & in a city with a long rcd. of not supporting pro fb & where it's all about the Dodgers & lakers.
