I have a question;
How tall can a soccer player get before said height begins to decrease his effectiveness? I mean in all facets of his game and not just footspeed? Could a tall player actually function as a goalkeeper if properly trained?

You realize most goalkeepers are quite a bit taller than you're average person right? Average height is around 5'9", and even Iker Casillas, one of the shorter successful keepers, is taller than that at 5'11" as is Akinfeev at 6', Buffon is 6'3", german national keepers Rene Adler and Manuel Neuer are 6'3" and 6'4" respectively, Petr Cech is 6'5", Kahn was 6'2", Edwin Van de Sar is also a tall mofo at 6'5". So in fact all successful keepers are technically tall, and many are really tall 6'3"-6'5". As long as you have the quickness and intelligence being taller just makes it easier to be a keeper.

Actually, when I'm referring to 'tall', I mean the kind of tall you only see on the Basketball courts and such, 6'6 plus basically.

So we lost to Bristol City at the weekend, horrible second half performance and too many players just wern't bothered. Graham Dorrans is going to be a star though, don't expect many of you to know him but he'll be in a top 10 team within 3 years, and top 6 within 5.
FA Cup replay tonight with a chance at a quarter final game against Aston Villa, so a local derby for a semi-final opportunity would be fantastic. Just hope no one gets injured or suspended, our squad is threadbare as it is right now.
I support West Brom incase people don't know...Currently 3rd in the Championship with a game in hand over 2nd.
Landon Donovan has also been quite a hit at Everton so far, a group of fans have also set up a facebook group for him wanting to stay: http://soccernet.espn.go.com/news/st...ngland&cc=5739
Your boy's done good over here, like many others.

But yeah, that definitely blows if Fabregas is out. Rooney got hurt, too, but that's only a few weeks. Still, he'll miss the second leg in the quarters and possibly the game against City (which I may have more interest in than others)

Barca dominated Arsenal, yet Arsenal came away with the draw. Shouldn't be too tough for them to put it away at home though, especially with Arsenal missing Fabregas.

So Fabregas is out for 6 weeks. Rooney for a month. That sucks.

My boy Javier Hernandez aka "Chicharito" signed to play with Man U! Whoo! Now this is exciting, first Mexican player to ever sign with United. Now Aguirre better take him to the WC!

Yeah, he's 21 already, but he's been in the club ranks in Mexico since he was like 16, i guess they still look at him as a little kid.

Nani and Robben had such sick goals yesterday. I miss having FSC and being able to watch those matches.

Nice to see Mexican players finally start to make a name for themselves in Europe. Vela, both Dos Santos, Salcido, and now Chicharito.
And yeah, Aguirre better take him, the guy can be a very dangerous weapon.

no, that's too big. They're too stiff to still play soccer, the legs get too long. Typically soccer players are fairly short guys. A few exeptions exist, there's a few bigger (6'4", 6'5") players playing forward, but those are usually tank-type players who rely on their aerial domination and strenght. Soccer is a finesse game mostly.
Defenders are typically a bit bigger than midfielders and forwards.

Yeah, he was dominating at Guadalajara this season, that really gave him a lot of exposure, which is good. A lot more European scouts are paying attention to the Mexican League to see what talent they can pick out. A huge amount of Mexican players are now in Europe, which is just awesome.

And Real Madrid falls short yet again. Florentino Perez should make wise investments now, if he wants to keep his job.
Wasting $250 million euros is nothing short of ridiculous, and if it doesn't pay off...
Given the amount of rumors going around, basically everything is possible. I read somewhere that this is what Florentino Perez is going to aim for by the end of next year.
That's one heck of a squad. He's already said he's got another huge pot of cash set aside for the sole purpose of acquiring players, so it's possible. He's also willing to trade players, virtually anyone not on that roster. Hard to see ManU giving up half their starting defense and their star forward, but when Madrid wants someone, they usually get him.

I can't wait for the City of Madrid to go broke and for Real to have to actually pay for their massive spending sprees. I don't mind when a team uses money that they actually earn to dominate like the Yankees, but when you're going out and spending hundreds of millions of dollars only to turn around and ask your city to cover your debts, I have no respect for that. Plus I hate seeing the Bundesliga lose elite talent even if I'm not a Bayern fan.

no way in hell will that squad happen. Real Madrid is very stupid, I hate how the just bring players but don't have a real system for him.

Then you have the young kids like Pedro, Maxwell and Bojan coming through. For me this is the reason that Barca are the better side now. While Real are spending big money on quality players they dont have a steady youth influx coming in. They said during last night's match that Barcelona had 7 starting players last night who came through their youth academy. That's incredible for any team. It's like the Man U team of the late 90's that should have won so many more Champions Leagues with Scholes, Giggs, the two Nevilles, Beckham etc
