2010 SEC Thread
4 national championships in a row for the conference and 5 in a row is a legit possibility. There is some big time talent yet again in the SEC and also some big time story lines. Florida has its next generation of young talent ready to step in for the legendary class that just left, Bama has the ammo to repeat, and LSU is loaded on paper. Teams like Auburn, Ole Miss, Arkansas, Georgia, and South Carolina all are very talented too with Mullen working on a nice turnaround in Starkville. Should be another exciting season in the SEC, just look at some of the talent in the conference.
Julio Jones
AJ Green
Mark Ingram
Patrick Peterson
Joseph Barksdale
Ryan Mallet
Lee Ziemba
Marcell Dareus
Jerrell Powe
Donta Hightower
Will Hill
Kentrell Lockett
Clint Boling
Terrance Tolliver
Those are all guys who are draft eligible with first round potential, and I'm sure I'm forgetting a few.

It's interesting how few Gators are considered high ranked prospects for the upcoming draft, despite how high expectations are. Brantley, Demps/Gillislee, and Debose/Rainey are going to form one hell of an offense.
I see a UF/Bama SECCG game again, with Bama winning. Florida doesn't appear to have much competition in the East. I just hope UF can steal one of the likely two games well have against Alabama.

The Gators definitely have some of the best talent in the nation, but very little of it is proven. I'm sure when the season gets underway there will be quite a few Gators who will emerge.

Wow....I'm surprised the most talented player in the entire conference wasn't even mentioned......Trent RichardsonZZZZ..
Bama's offense is going to be beastly.....but the defense has to replace basically 8 starters and 4 AA's......the talent to replace these players has already been on the roster (Nico Johnson, Dre Kirkpatrick, etc., etc.)...it's just a matter of getting them acclimated to Saban's system and getting them experience. We're losing a LOT of critical battle tested experience on the defensive side of the ball....but Kirby Smart will have these guys ready for a good ol' fashioned Gator roast in Tuscaloosa in early October...
Good luck to the Gators and everyone in the SEC in 2010! Looking forward to another great year of the greatest sport on earth....college football!

OLB Montez Robinson for UGA kicked off team and rightful so he might have started in the new 3-4 this year.

Bama has to replace 8 starters on defense & that will determine their season. Good talent coming in at CBs but untried in D1 play. Mark Barron at safety will provide their secondary's leadership, & Donta Hightower will be expected to be the new McClain calling the shots.
If everybody stays healthy on offense & the o-line gels I think they will be in the NCAA D1 top 5 in yardage & scoring -- defenses are going to be dealing with mismatches with Richardson & Ingram in 2-back sets, look for Saban to run those to force dfenses to put 7-8 inthe box & that should leave Julio with single coverage, & if McElroy is given the time by their OL, this could be Julio's long-awaited breakout yr . Clutch TE Collin Peek has to be replaced though.
Schedule is brutal by comparison with previous yrs, everybody wants to play you when you're the defending champion. They have Penn St. & Florida in back to back wks. but thankfully both are at home. They have to go to both LSU & Tennessee.
I was thinking a Bama-Tennessee rematch in the SEC title game but everything went kerflooey at Tennessee with a sudden wham-bam destabilizing : Kiffin & their best RB leaving, & the forthcoming NCAA investigation. Maybe it is Bama-Florida again, but Meyer will have to retool their offense around Brantley who's a whole different flavor QB from Tebow with a different skillset.

Brown leaving isn't the big loss. The big loss is LT Aaron Douglas, who out of nowhere decided to leave the team. The Vols OL wasn't looking good at all before that, and Douglas was the lone bright spot after being a Freshman All-American at RT last year. Now without him, I don't believe the Vols are returning a single starter along the OL. I do like the new coaching staff though, and I think one of the RB's will step up (I'm really high on David Oku and Tauren Poole). QB is a huge question mark too, especially now that he'll have an even more inexperienced OL in front of him. The DEF should be solid with Wilcox from Boise St. leading it, and I'm really excited about hiring former Vol great Chuck Smith to coach the DL.
I'm with you on Florida and Brantley - I'm not ready to annoint him a great QB yet either, and their offense will be moving away from the one Meyer is known for and has had his success with. The whole SEC seems to be retooling, and all the previous stars leaving. I mean, it's mind boggling to think of all the great players leaving: Tebow, Berry, McClain, Cody, Haden, Norwood, Anthony Dixon, Hardesty, Ben Tate, Spikes, Major Wright, Chad Jones, Dan Williams, Arenas, Curran, Reshad Jones, Dunlap, Pouncey, Greg Hardy, Atkins and Owens, Lindley, Kareem Jackson, and all the other guys. Gonna be really interesting to watch the next line of players make names for themselves.
Also, off topic, but thanks for your PM complimenting my sig, LS! I never got around to messaging ya back, but I appreciated it! I've only ever been a Titan fan, but I love the team's history and the Oilers are a huge part of it so the old throwback jersies are awesome. I've got huge expectations for Gerald McRath too! Loved him coming out of Southern Miss and practically flipped when we drafted him. :D

No Dont'a didn't receiver a MR....he's a junior and is ahead of schedule in his rehab...
He said his goal was to be ready to go by the time Bama's A-Day game rolls around...which I will be attending in 8 days...
Saban has held him out of practice for the most part all spring, but said that he could play in a game right now if he had to.

SCAR is pretty loaded. Biggest question, as always, will be the O-Line.
If the line holds up and Garcia continues his development, SCAR can have a really nasty passing game this year. Alshon Jeffery and Tori Gurley starting on the outside. mmmmm.

This is what I've been saying the whole time. Then rematch with Alabama in the SEC Title Game, but I won't predict that until it comes. If we look good enough, maybe we'd beat them the 2nd time around.

SCAR will give Florida a game. Oh yes...they will.
Dont sleep on SCAR too much. 17 returning starters. A full season of Garcia, Jeffery, Gurley, and Saunders. A Lattimore addition. mmm. SCAR could do some damage and then only lost 24-14 against Florida last year. The East is still looking weak and we cant exactly dismiss the Tebow to Brantley/Burton transition...even though, Brantley will still probably be excellent, more than likely.

This year's Florida offense might be better than last year's. Certainly more explosive.
The defense? Nooot so much...

Oh they suck. But I'm holding out hope that some more seasoning, a new O-line coach...again. And some new additions will take care of that. It all hinges on the O-Line. They do have some fantastic talent at the skill positions.

Vandy breathes!!! It will be interesting, i had hope last year before all the injuries. It'll be interesting to see how well the youngins come in and place. Warren Norman and Zac Stacy = Man Crush. I hope Wesley Tate(golden tates brother who i hear is fast as hell) gets some playing time. Loaded back field baby!! since we cant pass.... Larry Smith step up before Jordan Rodgers takes your spot. Thank god Adams is gone lol
