1996:
Keyshawn Johnson - Still produces at a very high level
Terry Glenn - Never more than a number two
Eddie Kennison - Solid, but never an elite receiver imo
Marvin Harrison - Top 3 or 4 of all time and in 04 a receiver most mentioned by DBs as the hardest to cover
Eric Moulds - See Kennison
Amani Toomer - Good number two, nothing more.
Mushin Muhhamed - Solid and at time spectacular, somewhat inconsistent at times
Bobby Engram - Never healthy
Terrel Owens - Amazingly good, when he shuts up and concentrates
Joe Horn - See above

2001:
Santana Moss - Still isn't utilised in the right way, could be an amazing talent, still finding himself
Reggie Wayne - Number two to one of the best of all time, probably beginning to become one of the league's best
Chad Johnson - Top 3 currently in the league
Chris Chambers - Inconsistent
Steve Smith - Top 3 currently in the league
T.J. Houshmandzadeh - Will end up as the primary target somewhere soon. Great number two receiver.

I think 2001, you've got Steve Smith who's only one of three guys ever to win the triple crown and has been to three probowls, Chad Johnson who's been amazing his entire career and continues to school defensive backs even when injured, Reggie Wayne who's helped manning get to the amazing heights he has.

2001 might not have more probowlers than 1996, but the calibre of the players who are probowlers is much higher than that of their 1996 counterparts.

That is absolutely a wrong way to look at it in my opinion. Especially when that list disregards all the busts the '01 class had, while including the mediocre receivers from the '96 class. Top to bottom, with every receiver in the class considered, the '96 class trumps the '01 class easily.
  • David Terrell
  • Koren Robinson
  • Rod Gardner
  • Freddie Mitchell

The '96 class had no 'busts' in the first round like '01 had. Top to bottom, it was deeper. '96 has two Hall of Fame caliber talents, whereas the '01 does not.

i cant believe people like 01 better, 96 has 2 hall of famers, 1 of the top 3 wrs of all time and plenty of number 1 targets that have been doing great jobs for their teams for many years

Maybe Wait till the 96 Class finally retires and you gotta figure... the 01 class only had 5 years vs. the 10 years.

No, to you 01 is better because Steve Smith was in it.

That's all you needed to say, dude. We know how you really feel.

I remembered during the 96 draft how Sterling Sharpe said that Harrison was the best WR available. I thought he was a bit over the top, but guess he was prophetic then. ;-)

It is interesting to see how the 96 class developed compared to the 2001 class. It would be cool to see how the teams have been drafting these last few years .....

yea this years WR class is great- Meachan, Johnson, Bowe, Jarret, Rice etc. IMO could be better than the 96 class.

Yes, if history is any indication, atleast one of those guys might turn out to be a bust.

04 had Fitzgerald, Roy Williams, Reggie Williams, Michael Clayton, Lee Evans, then a bust in Woods and an up in the air Michael Jenkins. And a few post up I think you meant to spell Meachem & Jarrett, no biggie.

Yeah, I was about to mention the WR class of 04. There are 3 recievers in there who had fantastic seasons last year (Evans, Roy Williams, and Fitzgerald would have if he hadn't gotten injured). I don't know what to think about Reggie and Clayton yet. Reggie showed some signs last year.

Actually I think its the best because its got both Johnson and Steve Smith, two players who'll be dominant for another 5 years in the league and probably supplant some of the guys from the 96 class who you're slobbering over.

96 is the better class, no contest. 1 sure fire Hall of Famer. One bubble Hall of Famer (TO).

Can't say that for anyone in the 2001 draft.

The 96 class has already won this debate. There are 10 guys in that class still playing today. 10 Wr's in one draft class playing for 11 seasons. 9 of them still either the #1 or #2 receiver. Amazing.
