They are everyones picks. Reese is just the general manager, however it's the scouts and Ross that create the big board, let by Ross. It's not like Reese sits in a throne room next to the Mara's and closes his eyes, and says he wants this player, and so his wish is done.
This whole thing is a process started with the scouts, and then Ross is the guy who runs, and creates the draft board based on the whole college's seasons prospect's reports.
Reese gets the props and the blame, which I think is too broad. I tend to go after the Director of Personnel.
G. Young - Tom Boisture
EA - Marv Sutherland
EA - Jerry Reese
2007- Jerry Reese - Jerry Reese
Jerry Reese - Marc Ross
EA, Fasshole and Sutherland pretty much stunk when it came to drafting. Then EA towards the end of his career started to do well.. Was it EA? Did the wig on EA's head start giving him powers? No, I would say the change of the HC, from Fasshole to Coughlin, and a change from Sutherland to Reese allowed us to draft better and better. Now the Ball is in Ross's court.

That's fair then if thats how you like to evaluate things. Accorsi's drafts did get much better when Reese came into position as director of scouting.

Yeah I always see the GM as a guy in the GENERAL manager type capacity. He looks over everything but the it's the specific guys I give props or blame too. Like fans give props to Reese for a good contract, while I credit the capologist and contract guy Kevin Abrams. Ross, gets the blame or props, for the draft. Reese plays a part too, but it's more of the Director of Personnel now. Reese had his spot in the Sun under Accorsi AND in 07, where he was the GM AND did his former job, since we didn't hire anyone. Now we see how good Ross can be.
Same with Sutherland.. Sutherland was the guy behind Dayne, Williams, Luke, Tim Carter, Jeff Hatch, and Shockey... In my view Shockey was his jem.
Boisture has been with us since the early 80s.. So he gets props for LT, and all those guys in that era.
Reese gets props for Osi, and Wilson, and all those guys.
Now it's a new chapter. 3rd draft for Ross, so only time can tell how he does. He did get interviewed by Seattle if I am not mistaken couple years ago. So people within the circle must know he has skills.

I actually think it was this offseason where Seattle tried to get Ross.

Yeah, i was very scared that we were going to lose Ross. I love Ross, and I hope we keep him for a very long time.
It's only a matter of time before he becomes someone else's Jerry Reese though. He's going to be a stud GM for somebody.

Oh ok, well it means people in the industry know about him, which is evident by the way we are drafting. I doubt Reese would hire a dud to replace him as the Director of Personnel. The implications of a bad person at the job is huge. It means coordinating and managing the scouts would be chaotic, and then creating the draft board would be messed up which then leads to poor drafting. Sutherland was not good at all.... Factor in a stupid HC in Fassel when compared to Coughlin, and no wonder the EA-Sutherland- Fasshole team stunk!
Just look at this:
Tim Carter in the 2nd Round
Jeff Fricking Hatch in the 3rd Round
Sutherland should have been kicked in the Balls, not EA. That falls on your scouts specifically the Director of Personnel.

It was him vs Tyree and others last season. He did well in pre season to earn a spot on the team. If he stunk, I have no doubt we would have cut him too. But it would seem whenever there is a shot to test him, he manages to squeak in. Plus for some reason not known to fans, he doesn't get on the field as much. But when he does he makes catches. It's not like the ball hits him in the head or in the chest and bounces off. The guy does catch everything thrown to him, but for some reason we don't know he hasn't emerged.

Or Kyle McCarthy. I thought someone like him would have a chance to make this team in camp because of his special teams play. And we've been hurting there on coverage.

goodbye 2010 class, you had so many good players, so many possibilities, yet we chose a boom/bust pick. It wasn't even enough to disappoint me with that, we didn't trade Barry Cofield for a 3rd round pick which we couldve gotten Geno Atkins with, awesome.
