Open Try Outs

hi folks,

i have an important question.

i have this young guy, a good friend of mine, here in Germany.

height:6'4
size: 290
Age:20
Position: in germany LT, maybe has to move to OG because he lacks "ideal" size for the OT position.

i wouldn't make this thread if this kid is just some good player.
but this kid is just an AMAZING football player.
big,fast,strong,intelligent,hard worker,loves the game, great character, amazing coachable

he wants to show what he can do on something like an open try out.
Is there such a thing like open try outs? if yes, where can i find some informations?

Make a highlight video and send it out to some schools and start calling the coaches

Sending a highlight video is your best shot. Follow up. Repeat.

send the video to as many schools as possible, upload it to http://www.playnextlevel.com too. basically, he's got to prove that he can play or at least tryout as a walk-on

Yea, he definitely needs a highlight video out there. After that, I don't think there's really many "open tryouts", but teams might see his video and invite him to a camp or to a workout/try out.

if he is enrolled at a school, typically they'll have a walk-on tryout.

best shot is to attend a JUCO and tryout there, or try to walk on at a smaller school (D-II)

There are such things, but not many D1 schools do it.

He plays over in Germany so I'm not entirely sure what kind of programs are offered over there. But if he came to school in the States with that size there would be coaches begging him to come play.
