Happ is cheap and solid. He's also a lefty. He has some potential and could be a nice innings eater. Nothing not to like. Teams don't love him, though.

Frankly, I'm shocked that the Angels got Haren with Saunders as the lead return piece...

Deal not official yet, but it looks very close. Roy and Roy on the Phils.

12:12pm: Oswalt plans to OK the deal, but it's not official yet, reports Stark. He adds that the Astros will be sending $11MM. Rosenthal tweets that Oswalt's 2012 option will not be exercised; he'll be compensated some other way. ESPN's Amy K. Nelson tweets that Oswalt will get $1MM added by the Phillies to the buyout of his '12 option. ESPN's Jerry Crasnick tweets of a rumor that speedy outfield prospect Anthony Gose may be in the deal. AOL FanHouse's Ed Price tweets that he's hearing Gose and Worley could be in the deal.

Id rather have Singleton than Gose.

Maybe it's my homerism and exclusively following Phillies prospects but I think Singleton could very well be a special prospect. Maybe not special but worth a trade for, definitely. He's shown some decent patience and now that in Lakewood he's being pitched around to, he's had a bit of trouble adapting. Looks to have turned the corner again a bit. Ridiculously high on him.

Happ's ERA was nice last year but he was basically a flyball pitcher, wasn't he? He had some luck going his way and his BBs were nauseating at times. BUT, there will always be a spot in the Bigs for him somewhere as like bsaza said, he's an innings eater, a solid mid-to-end of rotation guy and by all accounts (like this matters), but he's a good dude. Either that or pathetic judging by that one quote where he talked about living by himself.

Another deal I'd love is Rizzotti (he's batting .360 in AA but he is 25 and struggled until this year), Worley and Happ for Oswalt. But unrealistic right?
----

Comahan: I'd rather give up Gose than Singleton so yeah. Gose, though, isn't a bad prospect at all. In fact, he's developed pretty well as of right now. Or at least better than the tools-y outfielders the Phillies tend to draft.

I wasn't referring to Singleton. If he's in the deal (which it looks like he isn't) then I think its a good deal for the Astros. I was really talking about all the other prospects.

Ahh okay, makes sense then.

Vance Worley is definitely in this deal along with Happ and I guess we can assume Gose?

I wonder if Oswalt really forced his value down by really limiting the teams he'd accept a trade to.

I really just can't believe the Astros are going to pay 11 million. Oswalt is etiher owed 24 million through 2011 or 37 million through 2012 and the Astros are going to pay 11 of that and get that return?

Or Ed Wade is a puppet controlled by the Phillies to destroy the Astros. It's like the ****** kid you invite to be the 12th man in a fantasy league.

If it's really Gose, Worley & Happ for Oswalt (with the 'Stros eating out some of the contract), then this is a nice win for the Phils.

I like Gose, but unsure why the Astros took him. He's a speedy guy without a lot of power. Kind of like Bourn. You probably shouldn't have 2 of those guys in your OF if you expect to win. Not that I'm really complaining, but Houston is stupid.

Now have 2 people, not involved in trade, saying Phillies trading Jonathan Singleton in Oswalt deal. If so, that's a good get for Astros.

btw, Hellickson was pulled to "limit his innings".

I really hope thats true. Im already miserable that we have to deal Oswalt (Hes with Bagwell/Biggio/Berkman in terms of guys i never, ever want/wanted to see leave the town), but not getting a lot back for him would make it a lot worse.

I really don't want them to part with Singleton. The Phillies haven't had a big IF prospect (or sans Brown, positional player) since Howard. Singleton is practically the only one with a high projection (I love Villar, Galvis's glove and Garcia but I'm not sold on them being starters) in the system.

I would like to keep Singleton too, but he's not going to be a Phillie in the end because he's blocked by Howard. The guy was going to be dealt within the next 3 years if he continued on this track anyway. Might as well be for a guy with almost 150 wins and a proven playoff pitcher.

I know he's still far away from the majors, but wouldn't Singleton be blocked by the huge contract of Howard.

I feel like in 3-4 years RUben Amaro's tenure will not be viewed favorable between:

-Howard's Contract(He'll decline by that point.)
-Trading prospects
-Lee fiasco

If Utley leaves in FA, what's left in 3 years when Halladay goes?

If they play Singleton like they normally do, he'll be in Clearwater next year with a possible cameo at AA in August. They'd keep him AA for the whole year probably and then it'll get awkward. Rarely do they keep guys at AAA for more than a month or so (usually trades or call-ups) so he'd be blocked in 2.5 years still. I'd just want to trade him later on but you never know how his value changes.

Rizzotti is also kind of blocking Singleton to at AA but he's a mediocre fielder and he's blowing up this year but has been fairly average throughout his career and Reading is a hitters ballpark. Not sure if he can keep up a .360 average.
