yes....okay people. They did it for Hard Knocks....

Timing and gauranteed money are huge. He gets big money now. Likely bigger money at 28, which will either be a monster, or allow for another contract later on. That is more contracts than most people get...with plenty of gauranteed cash.

Didn't he forfeit $20 million guaranteed for this...? Basically, giving up $20 million over 3 for $32 million over 4.

If so, this deal just doesn't seem as impressive.

Good for him I guess

i think he took the shorter contract so he can sign with the giants in 4 years to be on a winner after Sanchez holds them back this year, and they no money to retain Braylon, Santonio, or David Harris next year and falter

Wasn't Revis doing this because he was afraid one play could ruin his career so he wanted big money now? Now everyone is saying he's set himself up for an even bigger deal in 4 years but then one has to ask what if something happens to Revis. Whatever this is doesn't make sense.

OK my point was kinda in jest anyway but really...the stupidest thing you've ever heard???

If the Jets get nothing from Hard Knocks, why would anytime let them in to showcase them during the grind of training camp? This not only helps ratings but will also put more asses in the seats throughout the season which is what they need, but yeah you're right I suppose the Jets don't get any revenue from ticket sales!!!

Also, why throughout the summer has Darrelle Revis stated he wants 50c more than Asomghua who was the highest paid CB in the league but take a contract for less?

It's also not unheard of for veterans to miss training camp in holdouts, mainly because they dont want to be in camp.

I really dont want to sound like BCE and join the whole the NFL is a big conspiracy thing but if you're thinking there is no possible way this could be part of it then you're kidding yourself.

Why would the Jets create this whole big drama over the summer with their best player, have him holdout, have it shown on national TV, have their GM literally pulling his hair out over not getting Revis signed, have their GM come out and say they are preparing for the season without Revis the same day that their HC somehow tracks him down in Florida for a man-to-man and have him sign his contract on the last episode of Hard Knocks? Yeah that makes no sense whatsoever

Right, I really am just confused about any of this. I understand not wanting a back loaded contract, but to hold out for 32 million when a chunk of that is going to be taken away to begin with is just stupid. And lol, yeah hes going to set himself up for a huuuuuuge contract at 28, wtf why not just do it now while you already have held out all off season.

Cro too, though at least Kyle Wilson is waiting in the wings there.

Nice for Revis that he gets a lot of money now and a chance for another massive deal in his prime, huge for the Jets to get their best player in the fold. Surprised about how little money it is, but it does make some sense for him. Would've imagined at least some more incentives though to pump up the total potential value of the deal.

You guys are forgetting he has paid $500 000 + in fines. I'd say there is a decent chances he caved and took a smaller contract than he actually wanted, just with a few less years on it.

And it's actually a 7 year deal, just apparently voidable after 4, so, yeah. It will be 4 years.

Braylon, Santonio, Cromartie, David Harris are all free agents.

We will retain one of Holmes or Bray-Bray. We will release Woody, which will probably give us the cash to sign Harris (Woody is making around 6 million per, I'm guessing Harris will get about 7). We will probably let Cro go, because we have Wilson.

We will also probably not resign Shaun Ellis, which is another 3+ million off the books.

I'm guessing Braylon and Cro are gone out of the 4, and Harris and Holmes are staying. Unless some of them take discounts to stay (which obviously is extremely unlikely, but the Jets did take chances on 3 of the 4 when no one else would).

Disposable income and absurdly high ticket prices are much more relevant to attendance than anything that has or ever will happen on any episode of hard knocks.

The jets didnt CREATE this, it happens when a player thinks hes outplayed his contract and the team builds him up in the media like that. i highly doubt the revenue generated for the jets from hard knocks due exclusively to revis' holdout isnt worth more than a week or two of his paycheck it that. so yes to say there is some sort of conspiracy for ratings is crazy.

and hard knocks didnt help revis at all, the cameras followed the GM around and gave him plenty of oppurtunities to make Revis look like the bad guy, which thanks to the blacking out of the media by the team and revis didnt have much an effect.

the contract is worth more guarenteed by a little bit over aso's but the team options on aso's make his worth more overall and potentially more guarenteed. but its the fact that revis' isnt worth more potentially is where ill agree with you that this is a little odd. 8 mil/guarenteed per year is about what i thought hed get. but the upside of the contract with incentives isnt much higher and that is puzzling. he seems very confident in his ability to stay on top and be great, why not include a crap load of incentive based clauses to capitalize on your skills? guarenteed money looks alright, but i thought the overall potential value was gunna be closer to 65 million.

he hasnt paid them yet. him and ryan are working out what to do about them and how to handle it.

Im guessing he donates that much to charity and they move on. if they let him off the hook completely they lose all leverage in the future though.

fair enough, and the Jets OL seems to be set for a while. I'm still not the biggest D'Brick fan, but he's a top 10 LT (maybe even top 5, there's just something about him...maybe because he hurt Osi, idk haha). But D'Brick and Mangold locked up, then Ducasse, Slawson and the under-rated Brandon Moore. I love their OL situation.

Yeah this happens when a player outplays his contract, and a team doesnt have a loud mouth head coach talking about how hes the best in the game and gives that player all the fuel they need to hold out through camp. However, in the Jets situation, thats exactly what happened. Stupid to say the Jets didnt create this when Ryan couldnt shut up about the guy, and maybe Hard knocks didnt help Revis out, but it certainly didnt help the situation either.

The guaranteed money seems low but it's on a 4 year deal. Typically when a player gets 32 million guaranteed it's on a 6 or 7 year deal. If you extrapolate it out it, it's close to what Bradford got in his deal. Plus in 4 years if the Jets tank and are bottom feeders he can walk away.

Brandon Moore is great. Love him for our run game. Hopefully Slauson can be solid, he's in between two very good players, so we don't need him to be too spectacular. And I believe the real hope in the franchise is that Ducasse learns the ropes this year and starts at RT next year.

Also, sidenote: I think people saying how it's all Rex's fault Revis is holding out are a little off. Vincent Jackson is involved in a worse holdout and no coach told him he was the best in the league. Reggie Wayne was holding out before, no coach told him he was the best. Hell, Rex said Mangold was the best, Jenkins was the best, but they didn't hold out.

Holdouts are based mostly on the player's personality, and the second biggest thing is their agents.

Yeah I realise that but my point wasn't saying it was definitely done for Hard Knocks or anything like that. My point was it could have been. Having the huge backline of Revis holding out and signing on the last episode is gonna make Jets fans go crazy just in time for the season. Add this to the already huge hype the Jets are getting and they will not have to worry about attendances this year

A) Jets probably will still have to worry about attendance.

B) Having him not practicing with us is never a good thing. He could have been out there giving advice, challenging the WR's, and just being one of the leaders. Instead he wasn't. He also will now pretty much walk in to real game circumstances, with only a week of practice to knock the rust off.

Darrelle Revis doesn't have rust. He's a finely-tuned athletic machine.

My money is on him getting burned early on in the season.
You can't just avoid the entire off season and not show signs of rust

This.

I think by midseason hes gunna be tagged with the 'the system and rex made him' tag because cro is gunna explode this year and create a controversy over which one is the best. revis still will be but cro will make a convo of it. just jumpin out on the ledge.

They need Revis on the field to be great, they can be effective without him. But I get what you're saying.

He was training with Ty Law all off-season. If there's any dback who knows how to skip the off-season and still remain effective it's Law.

Just wanted to throw out that espn reported that Revis sat in for the final negotiations of his contract which players NEVER do and it was filmed on Hard knocks. Again not saying this was the only reason he held out or signed, but this was done for the show.
