Pretty much. As Portis' backup, he averaged like 10 ypc during his freshman season. McGahee was an afterthought until Gore tore his knee up in spring football.

that is really amazing. Gore has an amazing story. Through those knee injuries and having mental disabilities(He was in special ed programs in HS but dropped out of them because those HS degrees couldnt have gotten him into college)/ And still becoming a productive NFL RB.

You can play "what if (insert Rb) never got injured" for many many RBs. Most RBs have to deal with injuries in their careers.

He would be a Houston Texan and Arian Foster might have been picked up by a different team.

It's crazy how loaded those Hurricane teams were. At one point they had Clinton Portis, Frank Gore, Willis McGahee and Najeh Davenport on the team at the same time.
Think about that.

Because before he decided to beat the **** out of his girlfriend, he was a serviceable RB.

They also had Jeremy Shockey and Andre Johnson on offense while the D had Jon Vilma, DJ Williams and Ed Reed. Three standout freshman were Sean Taylor, Kellen Winslow and Vince Wilfork. They also produced 1st rd picks in Bryant McKinnie, Phil Buchanon, Mike Rumph, Jerome McDougle and William Joseph.
Crazy indeed!!!

Frank Gore was/is a beast, i always wondered how good he could of been if wasn't for those 2 ACL tears(samething with Willis but mainly Gore). Poor Edge if he didn't tear his ACL he could been of a 1st ballot HOF RB, he is the only Colt I liked.
What if Maurice Clarett made smart decisions and stayed in school for 3 years.............instead of doing all the dumb stuff he did

Don't forget Reggie Wayne. Vernon Carey and Antrel Rolle were first round picks as well.

He would still be out of the NFL because he wasn't very good.

What if the Browns would have taken Donovan McNabb, Edgerrin James, Torry Holt, or Champ Bailey instead of Tim Couch?

Willis couldn't get close to a 4.2 either, and he wasn't even faster than Peterson.
Lendale White: 197 carries, 1302 yards, 24 Touchdowns, 6.6 yards per carry
Larry Johnson: 271 carries, 2087 yards, 20 touchdowns(and 3 receiving), 7.7 yards per carry.
JJ ARrington: 289 carries, 2018 yards, 15 touchdowns, 7 yards per carry
Cedric BEnson, Toby Gerhart, Darren McFadden all of the top of my head had similar numbers and didn't have the luxury of being on the most stacked team of all time.
And like others said, Gore was considered the guy there.

Good call.
God could not have built a better RB than that man. But the game is rough on joints, bones, ligaments.
Speaking of that, ESPN's 30 for 30 this week (tomorrow I think) has a feature on Marcus DuPree. He might have rivaled Bo Jackson as God's most perfect creation for a RB, physically.
Everyone needs to make sure they are recording or watching that show. He's before most of our time, but I've studied DuPree and he was sensational.

I hate "what ifs." What if Matthew Stafford knew how to fall on the ground properly?
