Draft implications of signing Kerney

When I saw the signing, this was the first thing that came to my mind. DL was looking at a 4th or 5th round pick for us, but now our second day is screwed up. Do we still take a young, developmental DE or do we wait until next year?

I don't see us drafting a DE, but I can see a DT. I think there's some confidence in Tapp's ability to stop the run and Fisher's still got some years left. I think DT could be a possibilty with the injuries that have occurred like Tubbs and Davis.

I see we're trying to make as many topics as possible.

But anyway, I don't think you can lump "DL" all into one position when it isn't one. Both DE and DT were big priorities (though many beyond the Seahawks FO didn't seem to think so) coming into the off-season, and DT still remains an issue. Tubbs' future is up in the air, and our run-stuffing DTs beyond that are aging. Plus, it was clear that the lack of a big body in the middle this year affected Lofa's play. If we can find a quick fix through FA, that's fine, but we should be looking towards the draft for a run-stuffing DT.

...As for DE, I still think that RE spot is Tapp's to lose, but at LE, Kerney should give us some years, and we can probably wait until next year to grab a guy.

I see Kerney filling in at RE with Wistrom giving him breaks and Fisher splitting time on the left with Tapp. I'm almost certain that Kerney played RE in ATL and I don't see why Tapp can't move over.

Kerney played LE in ALT and that is where he will play here. I just hope they give Tapp the starting job at RE and not move Fisher over there, he is to slow to beat LTs.

If we got another day one pick, it would be. But for now, OG and TE are much bigger needs, and thus DT is a 4th or 5th round need. (possibly behind S)
