Yea this show is just the tits. Nothing better on tv right now imo. I can't wait for these last two episodes although I feel like they have soooooo much left to get through. Hopefully they are longer episodes like the premiere. Who does everyone think gets whacked in the end? I've been thinking about how they will setup season 2.

Yeah the writers some how find away to make Van Alden more messed up every episode. I never thought they could top the episode when he whipped himself with the belt but they have twice.

Paris Green was when all the chickens came home to roost. I've watched the whole series from OnDemand now & got caught up.

We're seeing Emmy-caliber performances from topnotch actors here at this point, it's called hamartia in Greek Tragedy, the revealing of the tragic flaw in the tragic hero/heroine.

We see the cold-bloodedness from Gretchen Mol with the hint of her as the source of arsenic poisoning "enough to kill a hippo" in the dying Commodore, & that character trait passed on in her gangster son Jimmy when he stoically accepted abandonment from his wife & son, then without missing a beat puts the returned son to bed with "Just us guys now" telling his disloyal wife offhandedly about the bisexual extramarital affair ("I know what you've been up to") & kicking her to the curb.

And from the great Dabney Coleman as the dying Commodore, he becomes sentimental over his just revealed only son Jimmy & his mother the former teenage mistress as they circle like sharks smelling blood over his wealth while he's on a deathbed, so ironic as a Coleman is an actor who's built a career-long carefully cultivated image as an abrasively not very nice guy. I'm biased & have always loved Dabney Coleman in everything he's done (we both grew up in San Antonio), even watched every episode of his deadpan laughtrackless comedy Buffalo Bill about 16 yrs ago. I really will hate to see him written out of this superlative series.

And of course from Steve Buscemi as Nucky, the antihero crime boss. We were getting all warmed to him as a charming, witty guy with his love for Mrs. Schroeder & his hopes for a son that he lost as a widower restored in her. That was a flaw in that his weakness was exposed, & he knew it when he threw the disinfectant at her saying she washed herself "out like a common *****" so we see the real ruthlessness of Nucky again as he throws his corrupt brother under the bus.

We could argue that Kelly MacDonald, an underrated actress with her near flawless Irish accent, revealed her inner morality by biling on Nucky too. She clearly had misgivings about being politically manipulated by the corrupt regime & as a kept mistress by Nucky. We can count on seeing her flex her newfound power in episodes to come, can't wait to see if she & Nucky get back together b/c there is something sparking there between them, or if she will extract revenge via religious fanatic fatalist Fed Van Alden who also has a sexual obsession with the charismatic Mrs. Schroeder.

Also can't wait to see how Van Alden gets out of ridding himself of his treacherous underling in the baptism scene, remember he actually murdered him in front of many witnesses. Also can't wait for Capone to turn on Torrio & take him out, I'd bet the ranch on that one coming.

I see a lot of Gangs of NY & maybe a little of the Aviator in the look & feel ambiance of the period here in BE, the hand of master craftsman Martin Scorsese is so apparent b/c this is what he does best. It is displayed int he wardrobe, the many cynical expressions in the dialog of 1920 vernacular we have heard from later Depression-era dramas, & the stunning characterizations in the players.

There's some of Bill the Butcher in Nucky & I'm really enjoying finally seeing Buscemi display his acting chops in a leading role like this, you could see that in previous criminal character roles in which he excelled like Mr. Pink in Reservoir Dogs, Tony Blundetto if the Sopranos, & all the Coen Bros. films such as Barton Fink, Miler's Crossing, Hudsucker Proxy, Lebowski & especially in Fargo which may have been his best ever film performance (although some prefer his Ghost World supernerd role). His performance as Nucky has Emmy written all over it, & I think the series will receive recognition for scripts directing, & maybe BSAs for Kelly MacDonald &/or Michael Pitt/Johnny & Mike Shannon/Van Alden.

Fantastic finale. Season 2 is going to be great. This is easily my favorite show now.

I'm really in to Boardwalk Empire. But sadly, I stopped watching like halfway through the first season for whatever reason. I'll have to catch up eventually.

All my friends think it's the most boring show on television.

It's a bit slow paced compared to other shows but it is so well done. The storylines, costumes, sets, dialouge, just everything is perfect. If you want really slow paced watch Treme. It's an excellent show also but you have to be in the right mood to watch it.

I couldnt get into Treme. But I agree with everything you said about Boardwalk Empire. Great time period to showcase.

I saw the making of season 2...the little 15 minute segment or whatever. And they just nail it. It really is amazing. And the sets and costumes, really do bring out the best in the actors. I dont care who you are...the clothes alone are enough to inspire.
