Dear Friends,

I know this has been a frustrating time for all of you.

Let me assure you that the resources of this company have been focused on investigating the entire nature and impact of the cyber-attack we’ve all experienced and on fixing it. We are absolutely dedicated to restoring full and safe service as soon as possible and rewarding you for your patience. We will settle for nothing less.

To date, there is no confirmed evidence any credit card or personal information has been misused, and we continue to monitor the situation closely. We are also moving ahead with plans to help protect our customers from identity theft around the world. A program for U.S. PlayStation Network and Qriocity customers that includes a $1 million identity theft insurance policy per user was launched earlier today and announcements for other regions will be coming soon.

As we have announced, we will be offering a “Welcome Back” package to our customers once our PlayStation Network and Qriocity services are up and running. This will include, among other benefits, a month of free PlayStation Plus membership for all PSN customers, as well as an extension of subscriptions for PlayStation Plus and Music Unlimited customers to make up for time lost.

As a company we — and I — apologize for the inconvenience and concern caused by this attack. Under the leadership of Kazuo Hirai, we have teams working around the clock and around the world to restore your access to those services as quickly, and as safely, as possible.

I know some believe we should have notified our customers earlier than we did. It’s a fair question. As soon as we discovered the potential scope of the intrusion, we shut down the PlayStation Network and Qriocity services and hired some of the best technical experts in the field to determine what happened. I wish we could have gotten the answers we needed sooner, but forensic analysis is a complex, time-consuming process. Hackers, after all, do their best to cover their tracks, and it took some time for our experts to find those tracks and begin to identify what personal information had — or had not — been taken.

As a result of what we discovered we notified you of the breach. Our investigation is ongoing, and we are upgrading our security so that if attacks like this happen again, our defenses will be even stronger.

In the last few months, Sony has faced a terrible earthquake and tsunami in Japan. But now we are facing a very man-made event – a criminal attack on us — and on you — and we are working with the FBI and other law enforcement agencies around the world to apprehend those responsible.

In the coming days, we will restore service to the networks and welcome you back to the fun. I wanted to personally reach out and let you know that we are committed to serving you to the very best of our ability, protecting your information better than ever, and getting you back to what you signed up for – all the games and great entertainment experiences that you expect from Sony.

Basically its the same old crap again that they have already said 438639633863 times. It gives no time frame of when it will be back up it just says in the coming days. Its already said that same line about everday for the last 2 weeks.... Day 16 and counting.

Third attack againist sony planned... Its just a rumor but so far the 1st and 2nd attacks have happened.

The failure of Sony's server security has ignited investigations by the FBI, the Department of Justice, Congress, and the New York State Attorney General, a well as data security and privacy authorities in the U.K., Canada, and Taiwan.

Several weeks ago the hacker group known as Anonymous targeted several Sony Web sites, including Sony.com and SonyStyle.com, with a distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attack in retaliation for what its members saw as Sony's unfair legal action against hacker George Hotz. Two weeks ago Sony's PlayStation Network, along with its Qriocity service and Sony Online, were the target of an attack that exposed the personal information of more than 100 million Sony customers. Sony was forced to shut down PSN, Qriocity, and Sony Online, and is currently working to bring them back online after rebuilding the security of its servers.

Sony says it doesn't know who orchestrated what it's calling a "highly sophisticated, planned" attack, but it has dropped hints that the group Anonymous is involved. Kazuo Hirai, chairman of Sony Computer Entertainment, told a Congressional subcommittee in a letter yesterday that the intruders on its servers planted a file named "Anonymous" containing the statement "We are Legion," part of the group's tagline.

Anonymous issued a statement yesterday denying it was involved in the PSN breach. "While we are a distributed and decentralized group, our 'leadership' does not condone credit card theft," the statement said.

Now it seems the same group of hackers that was able to infiltrate the PSN servers is planning to hit back against Sony.

Sony did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Have you seen that logo next to certain people on your friends list? Those are all people who purchased PS +. It costs like $15 for 3 months or $50 for 12 months + 3 bonus free months (if they still have that 3 bonus months). You get 60 min full game trails on games like infamous, mass effect 3 basically pretty big titles. About a free PSN games every 2 weeks that they pick as well as a free ps mini game and ps1 game. You also get discounts on certain PSN games themes,avaters. Only certain stuff at certain times not like everything in the store. Basically they pick the stuff and you end up renting it for however long your subscription is because once it runs out you can no longer play the games unless you renew your subscription. Theres also more stuff but it might be easier just doing a quick search.

Yea I hardly ever play online so I dont really care that it is down. I auctally hope its down a few more weeks that way we can get the beta for Uncharted 3 when we get the free month of ps+

I have only played one game against a friend on PSN.

Its the fact that I bought MLBTV and I cant flipping watch it on my 46" LED unless I finagle my desktop to hook up to it but then its just a pain in the ass for one game then I have to move it back later that night.

I read something before that said you can't keep anything you download during the free Playstation Plus period.. unless you use it for discounts on games and such. So once that month is up, your downloads go away. That's the way I understand it anyways.

That would be correct. The free month everyone is going to recieve of PS + is just a way to try and get you to subscribe. Its slimy but its all about money. Basically if you use PS+ you are just renting all the free games that they choose to give to you. Once your subscription runs out you can no longer play them unless you renew your subscription. So by giving everyone a free month is less of a "welcome back" and more of a once this runs out maybe they will spend money and subsribe to continue playing those games.

They will lose like a legit Billion dollars from getting the network shutdown. They are not ready to give away free ****, more than anything, they want to make up for money lost. Most likely will cut down on advertising and try to get people to sign up for ******** just so they can meet their "corporation goals".

Sony claims its a cyber group called Anonymous that hacked into their system after Sony went after Geohot.

Anonymous said they were going to hack Sony's websites in response to the lawsuit but they claim to have not caused the PSN outage.

Sony still claims its Anonymous that caused the outage or at least "Rogue Anonymous Members" and has some branch of the FBI trying to track down the culprits.

So I'm on chapter 17 of like 26 on Uncharted 2 and its defnetly lived up to the hype. I've been going slow on this bc I knew as soon as I got into this I would just wanna played the U3. The graphics in this game just blow me away. It's so much better then the first one which I also enjoyed.

NFL Head Coach 09
Red Dead Redemption
Grand Theft Auto 4
Tiger Woods Golf (no particular year)

Damn, I can't really think of a 5th. I actually bought my PS3 in part so I could play God of War 3 but I was pretty disappointed with it.
