Pretty sure that right there would come close to clearing the necessary space

I'd have to imagine if he signed a 6-7 year deal, his number for the first year would be under the 8 million range.

That's what I was thinking as well, though to be honest I'm not expecting us to start negotiating with him right away. But with the things we're already planning to do nothing will surprise me at this point.

According to Mike Sims-Walker's twitter, he's going to get a "fresh start". So no he won't be back.

For Holmes AND Aso? Considering the Redskins want Holmes pretty badly, not happening...
Silly things like that are just to drum up excitement, it's not realistic at all unless Aso took a major paycut to come East and have a shot at the SB.

Which, if you'd read, he very well may do because he wants to play for the Jets...

Aso to the Jets sounds like something of a pipe dream. He may want to go to a contender, but I really can't see them being able to pay him.

We've gone over in this very thread how they could. It is not a pipe dream, but a real possibility, especially if he's willing to take a bit less - which considering a) he already cashed in on a huge deal and b) he wants to play for the Jets - could happen.

Ok then. Give me a realistic contract "discount" he could give them, that he'd take, and leaves them enough to outbid Washington for Holmes.

Jets are currently 1.2 million over the cap. You can be 6 million over the cap.
$7+ million cap # for Holmes this year.
$11+ million cap # for Nnamdi this year.
19.2 - 6 you can be over the cap = $12.2 over with Holmes and Nnamdi signed.
David Harris' deal goes from the 10 he's making now (tag) to a long-term deal in which his cap # is 5 and change this year.
12.2 - 5 = 7.2 over the cap.
Cut Bryan Thomas = +3.7 in cap space.
Cut LDT = about 2 in cap space.
7.2 - 3.7 - 2 = 1.5 million over the cap.
Mark Sanchez re-structures his deal, freeing up 7.5 million in cap space this season.
Jets are now 6 million UNDER the cap.
Revis could also potentially re-structure (couldn't find how much that could possibly save but dealing with his agents it could be a mess).

Something else to think about - the Ravens just gained about $18 million in cap space. Could they be in on the Nnamdi sweepstakes?
