Default "Athlete" position in NCAA
There are tons & tons of HS prospects who are classified as an ATH, because they do not project to a certain position. 1 thing about it is that once those players reach the collegiate level they are stripped of that ATH title. In Alabama's Blake Sims case that's another issue, because he has no true collegiate position.

Blake Sims' position is listed as "athlete" in Alabama's media guide. He was a four-star prospect who passed for 2,288 yards and ran for 863 as a senior at Gainesville High School in Georgia.

Tonight vs Ole Miss he got looks at RB where he looked very appealing to the eye. The ironic part about his situation is if he is or does end up being projected as a RB next year, he will have a long list of guys to compete with for playing time(Lacy, Fowler, Hart, Howell, Calloway)

I believe his best shot as being projected to the NFL would be to slide over to WR ala Russell Shepard.

Unless your truly special (Percy Harvin) the guys who try to be WR/RB hybrids usually just end up behind in their development at a position. Ala Russell Shepard.

Hell I would like to know how long is he a RB with Saban bringing in Dee Hart who happened to be the #8 RB in his class.

Sims will eventually end up as a WR when it is all said & over with.

Trey Burton best ATH guy around in SEC.Was not a factor in tonights game.But he usually is a stud at any wr , te or QB or even hb or fb type of role.

Bruce Ellington is our ATH.

I gotta admit, I was shocked as hell that Spurrier let him throw 4 passes today. And they were all awful. But he has now played WR, RB, QB and is our primary KR. Up until this point, he was just playing the QB position as a straight wildcat thing, but we had him throwing today. It made me nervous. But yeah, the guy can play anywhere, really. And they do play him everywhere.
