Reports are that Leach's contract is around 5 years-2.5 million per. That's a lot more than I expected Washington State to be able to pay, but a reasonable price for a guy with his credentials.

Wow, that's a pretty expensive contract.
I really think that he can turn them around into what Texas Tech was like when he was there. Maybe do even a bit better since WSU's division doesn't have a team like Texas or Oklahoma in it.

Heard June Jones is a candidate at ASU, along with Sumlin. If they get R-Rod, Leach, and either Jones or Sumlin there will be some serious basketball on turf in the Pac 12.

Arizona State keeps hiring coaches to reflect their senior citizen population. Erickson was 60 when they hired him, June Jones is almost 59.

By all indications, Martz would be a terrible recruiter. He's an arrogant SOB that is not personable.

Yeah, he only has to deal with USC, Oregon, and U dub now.
I love Leach and he i think he will do very well, but the logic doesnt make sense. Oregon and U Dub get all the top flight Northwest recruits right now, Leach may very well be able to change that...we will have to wait and see.

Was the situation any different at Tech with Texas, Oklahoma, and A&M getting all the top recruits?

It's being reported that Washington State will allow Leach a pool of $1.8 million to hire his assistants. I personally expect him to try and hire Robert Anae from Arizona. He's a BYU alum, was the OL coach at Texas Tech from 2000-2004, coached receivers at BYU from 2005-2010, and is the OL coach/running game coordinator now at Arizona

No, he was just saying how it should be easier without a school like UT or UO there...it just doesnt make any sense because there are schools in the Pac 12 that have already established that territory. Its just like Tech.

WSU is in the North division. The best teams in their division are Oregon and Stanford.
Those teams do not hold a candle to OU and UT year in and year out. They certainly don't compare to what UT and OU were like when leach was there.
USC is only on WSUs schedule every other year. That all makes it a much more favorable situation schedule-wise for leach at WSU vs tt.
The negative is that he does not have easy access to Texas recruits now. Then, again, quick shifty smurfs abound all over the country.

Im talking about in terms of recruiting. He needs to come in and establish he can recruit with the big boys....because right now none of those players in the northwest wanna go to WSU, they wanna go to UDUB and Oregon.

I personally think thats a good move. They can get a big name, they are a program with the pieces in place and are going into the SEC...very intriguing job.

Leach will do good there because he runs a good program and will have a good system in place. After awhile he was contending with the big schools and giving Texas & OU fits while they were stealing all the good players. He's nothing special and I don't expect him to start owning the Pac-12 but he's going to contend with Oregon as the offense guys will want to play for out there.
It works everywhere he goes, won't be any different now. He'll at least get WSU respectable before he leaves, which is what Tech was elevated to.
edit: As far as recruiting he was getting worked in the Big 12. He knows how to scout for his system and find speed though. He's just not going to land all the highly touted players, but his Texas ties will help him. I think he was only in the top 5 of recruiting classes in the Big 12 3 times and those were right at the 5 mark still behind Texas and OU every year.
All of that's not him though. Lubbock is in the middle of ******* nowhere. Literally. You can't always sell that to a kid over a huge campus in a big city.

People have this perspective that Tech sucked when Leach took over. That's simply not true.
Here are Leach's record in the Big 12:
3-5, 4-4, 5-3, 4-4, 5-3, 6-2, 4-4, 4-4, 7-1, 5-3
Here is the record in the Big 12 of his predecessor (Spike Dykes):
5-3, 5-3, 4-4, 5-3
Huge improvement indeed.

Yea thats going to be rough. Especially against Oregon you can argue that they can't hold a candle to UT or Oklahoma over the last decade or so but as of late they are the hot hand

Good.
Still pretty excited to see what Leach can do. I think having him in college football makes it a little more interesting. All the offense in the PAC 12 is going to be fun especially if Sumlin goes to ASU.

Charlie Baggett out as UT's WR coach. Color me surprised and a little disappointed.

I didn't expect that big of a contract but he's a big name and Arizona State needs someone there that can now compete with the other big names in the Pac-12
