Really? Damn.
Boise is going to be just another non-qualifying BCS team now. Moore is gone and if Petersen leaves I cannot see them becoming prominent again.

Mike Price will be retained by UTEP.
I'm a huge fan of Chris Petersen but I'm skeptical of how successful he'll be at UCLA. He's had unprecedented success at Boise but the track record of coaches leaving that school to coach elsewhere isn't good. Also, he will now face top competition on a weekly basis. How well can he recruit the L.A. area?

petersen's coaching ability with access to california talent will be scary. urban meyer did just fine going from utah to the hardest state to compete in for recruiting talent. i think petersen will have similar success

I think Peterson is perfect for UCLA. It'd be awesome to see him build a great program back out there.

Why isn't Gary Patterson among the top names rumored for the PSU job ? I know he has no ties to the area but he runs a clean program and fits the Nittany Lions style of football.

Rumor is job has been offered, but it is not a done deal as there are other suitors for his services. I'm going to guess he accepts the job.

Plans are for him to be co-defensive coordinator with Luke Fickell

Patterson makes a lot of money at TCU, they are entering the Big 12, he has a great recruiting-base, and he's a God among the fanbase.
He's not going to give that up to take on the tire fire that is Penn State right now. Dan Mullen is much more realistic because he has a lot less to lose.

Sounding good for Stoops. Him and Fickell running that defense would be outstanding. No doubt Stoops would have more say though.
Rumors are that LSU OC Studrawa is #1 on Urban's list for OC and Clemson's Chad Morris is #2. I've heard they might get Tim Hinton from Notre Dame possibly as an assistant as well.

On paper at least, it is a great hire. Pac 10 football could really get a huge boost in talent. Going to be one tough conference.

That's what you do in college football when you don't wants to hurt someone's feelings. Fickell was already a co-coordinator, which means he got coffee for the actual DC.

Or it could be that he did a lot of the heavy lifting before he became head coach. The defensive drop off last year was profound. Not all of that was youth and a ****** LB corp.
But I also agree that it's an ego/resume thing to not hurt any feewings.

clemson's oc would be sick for urban's offense. after seeing tahj boyd in that offense, i don't want to see what braxton could do

I love Petersen and growing up here in Idaho, I have become very fond of the program at BSU. It would be sad to see him leave and would be hard for me to watch him go to UCLA with how big of a USC fan I am, but if he goes I really think he will be quite successful.
He has always found those rare gems since hes been at BSU. Landing all the guys other programs didnt really want and turning them into something special. He has turned out quite a few NFL draft picks and for a small program like them, thats pretty good. Everyone knows hes one of the best when it comes to preparing his team year in and year out, now if he can get some talent to go along with that....watch out.

Luke Fickell is a total broski.
I've had this conversation with a lot of OSU fans and I've yet to have anyone actually explain what makes him an "up-and-coming" coach other than the fact that he recruits well. He needs to get out of Ohio State if he wants to make anything serious of himself because right now everything about him screams nepotism.

People probably said similar things when Dan Hawkins left. But I think they'll be fine. They are moving to the Big East, so they'll probably be able to recruit a little better and make a bit more money. If Peterson leaves, they will probably continue their trend of promoting assistants and promote Brent Pease or Pete Kwiatkowski

I totally agree on all points. I think he seems like a nice guy, he stepped up and filled a void (while pocketing $700k) in a tumultuous time, and he did a pretty crappy job of it.
Thank you for your service and we'll recommend you take the Akron job.
Granted, maybe he can be groomed by a coach that actually wants his assistants to think for themselves. I dunno.
Meyer is also kind of a broski, albiet a much more focused, serious, and intelligent one than Fickell.

If Stoops does in fact go to OSU, well then the Big10 is ******.

Well that's good, I guess...I know that Meyer and company will bring that university a national championship sooner rather than later. Adding Stoops to that mix with his defensive mind and really good recruiting will also **** the Big10 in the ass.
