Yeah I know. Still there were a couple of third downs we should have converted. We had two back to back three and outs. Thank goodness our defense bailed us out.

Enjoy his play while you can because he's as good as gone. I thought maybe we could keep him but his play will earn him a nice contract and a starting gig somewhere.

That is the OLD Niners attitude. They are now a top tier team with a head coach they all LOVE playing for. I think a lot of these guys will want to stay on the team, even for a cheaper price.
That's my wishful thinking at least....

We'll find out soon enough. I still think Dashon is a goner because they won't want to pay him big money, so here's hoping no other team feels the same.

So you think he stays here to back-up Willis/Bowman, instead of going somewhere else as a starter, making starter money? Wishful thinking indeed. As much as he likes playing for the hometown team, any competive athlete wants to be on field making plays. I just don't see him sticking around. He's still young and is good enough to be a starter. Alot teams desperate for a good MLB/ILB will jump at the chance to sign him.

It's been reported that Grant has turned down the initial contract extension (I believe 2 years) offer from the Niners, and that was before last night when he as a beast...again. He likely will have other offers but he has to prioritize money or having a role on a team that can be consistently winning. We'll see what he chooses.

If Alex led Williams it's a pick, if he threw in time it would have been into the hands of the lineman he was trying to get around to find a throwing lane. If Williams has sat down in that hole - touchdown. Williams is young and can learn this, not sure what your excuse is for not being able to perform a simple task like watching television.

Steve Young said Kyle Williams was supposed to sit in the zone and catch it. It wasn't Alex's fault. He made a good throw. Williams screwed up. Alex also had Gore in the flat on the following play, but Troy Polamalu broke through the line and pressured him in his face. And Steve Young isn't exactly a biased blind Alex fan. He's just calling it like it is.

Check this out. Alex Smith's statistics at 11-3:
QB record: 11-3.
Passing yards: 2752
Completion Percentage: 61.4
Yards Per Game: 196.6
Touchdowns/Interceptions: 16/5
Yards per attempt: 7.1
Sacked: 39 times
Another quarterback at 11-3 at one point in time during their first year starting who is now one of the best in the league:
QB record: 11-3.
Passing yards: 2843
Completion Percentage: 63.9
Yards Per Game: 189.5
Touchdowns/Interceptions: 18/12
Yards per attempt: 6.9
Sacked: 41 times
Guess who the other quarterback is.
No this doesn't mean they are on the same level obviously. One is having modest success in their first year in a new system and in the other sceneario at one point in time, the other quarterback is in his first year starting in a system that he'll come to being very comfortable with.
Just thought it was interesting.

Alex made a few errant throws but the ones to Williams and Gore in the red zone were not on him. Like someone already said, if Alex throws the ball in front of Williams then it is an interception and it was a good play for him just to get the ball off when Polamalu broke through on the pass to Gore.
That said, he just missed a wide open receiver at least a couple of times that I remember, one to Crabtree and one to Walker, and there were a few inexcusable drops, a couple by Gore and the long one by Davis. Everyone on the offense needs to work on their sloppy play.

Yeah, can we not just blame Alex or act like he's entirely not responsible for anything.

Recent history would suggest no. It is either all Alex Smith's fault or we play well

He's a RFA so the 49ers can just put a high tender on him.

Or we play well and it is Alex's fault for not playing even better.

Yes. They were a lot better on third downs. Probably the key difference there. But his stats that year were very game-manager like.
