Everyone is just assuming Mallet is going to be a solid starting QB in the league.
I feel people are overhyping Mallet tremendously.
There are plenty of NFL coaches who aren't
draft nerds, and are coaches for reasons other than their ability to evaluate how well collegians will assimilate into the NFL. And the question here is not simply whether Ryan Mallett is going to be a good player, but that all things considered, the Patriots taking him in the third round was well worth the value because he pretty easily could've gone first or second and it wouldn't have been a big deal. You'd have had people saying he was a reach in the first, but really nobody is trying to say he should've gone even later than he did.
