So much for the "Norv is out after the season" talk that was going on. Spanos just made a huge mistake by keeping both Turner and Smith. The team has gone in reverse since hiring Norv as coach.

Was just about to post this, I'm happy about it.
Likely to be hiring a new DC, and assigning Castillo a different position...wouldn't be getting fired.

I hated Martz when he was here. All of his seven step drops and tendency to get his quarterbacks killed and lead to turnovers. Oh and leaving Vernon Davis in to block 90% of the time was beyond stupid. Just dumb.

Raiders fire good amount of defensive staff, including DC Chuck Bresnahan. A 3-4 DC could possibly be brought in, Hue will likely find a old friend to come on and energize this defense.

We traded Greg Olsen because Martz just got tired of working him into our offense. He was easily our best pass catcher and would have given us more than Roy Williams did at any point this year.
Olsen is athletic enough to be one of those upper echelon TEs and we basically gave him away to Carolina. Nothing we do with that 3rd round pick will bring us a player as impactful as Olsen could have been.
And now we move away from Martz, probably to a guy who would have altered his system to utilize a good TE.
Sigh.

Plz no...keep the 43...we'll suck even more in a 34. No NT...and the LBer situation would be messy

I fully expect Reggie McKenzie, Eliot Wolf, and Shaun Herock to leave Green Bay for Oakland after the playoffs. It's nepotism, but there's no denying that they're all qualified for promotions that simply aren't available in Green Bay. Eliot Wolf is even believed by many to be next in line for Green Bay's GM gig when Thompson retires. I'll hate to see them leave Green Bay, but this would be a huge turn of events for Oakland.
Also, if Hue Jackson thinks he has as much pull in Oakland as Ken Herock and Ron Wolf, then he's insane. He's going to get himself fired within 12 months.

The next GM should fire him just for making that stupid Carson Palmer trade. When your first decision with major power turns out to be...that...you aren't going to be in power long.

Why hasn't Joe Philbin's name been mentioned/linked with Tampa so far? I think he'd be a good fit here and logical/realistic hire for this offense.

Hm. Figures the Glazers are more interested in Mike Sherman than an actual good and viable coaching candidate.

Schefter reports that the Chiefs have already had several interviews, although they’re keeping the names of the other coaches they’re interviewing under wraps.

I figured Romeo would have the head job wrapped up. Interesting.

I still think Romeo gets the job this is a case of KC doing due dilligence and making sure noone else wows them

From everything I have heard he still has the edge but that isn't going to stop them from interviewing others first.
I still feel unless someone blows them away in an interview it will be Romeo.

Can a Packers fan give me a little more information on Philbin? From what I understand he doesn't coach the QBs or WRs and he doesn't call the plays. What exactly would the Chiefs be getting if he were to be hired?

Philbin is involved in the weekly game planning, but McCarthy calls the plays.
Clements is the QB coach who works closely with Rodgers and if I recall is heavily involved in Red Zone offense.
Philbin is a former offensive line coach and his role is a bit of a mystery. I think McCarthy would be overloaded trying to be OC and fulfill all of the HC responsibilities, so Philbin's role is to take some of those OC duties off his plate. The question is which ones and I don't know if anyone outside of the Packers organization really knows that.

I did notice that when Philbin took over for Jeff Jagodzinski in 2007, the Packers offense really started to take off. The playcalling became less conservative and Favre's efficiency went through the roof.
My gut feeling is that he would be an outstanding hire, but like Timm said, nobody outside of the organization really knows what he does other than helping McCarthy develop a game plan. From the booth, he probably gives input for in-game adjustments.
And yeah, the Mike Sherman would be an incredibly stupid hire for Tampa Bay.
