Pitt would be so much better off than they were under Graham(they likely already are) if that were to go down. With Penn State potentially taking a step back for a few years, they have a real good chance to grab a piece of the pie if Chryst can cut it as a head guy.

Penn State doesn't even have any coaches they have contacted interested in the position.

Reports are coming out that O'Brien is interviewing for the Penn State job with "a deal possible soon". To be honest, I wouldn't mind if the guy left at all. I would rather have McDaniel's back. O'Brien has done a decent job, but he's way more of a caretaker than anything else. I wouldn't really be too thrilled with the get if I was a Penn State fan....and I'm not terribly enthused that O'Brien is shopping around like this when we're in a position to make a playoff run.

They're going to play it off like he was their first choice but he was probably about 20th down on the list.

Rumors prove false.
Paul Chryst hires Wisconsin LB Coach Dave Huxtable as new Pitt DC.

Greg Roman has said publicly that he could imagine himself taking the Penn State job the rest of his life. There is legitimate interest in the Penn State job. I personally dont think it will be O'Brien either. Rumor is that the deadline is next wednesday. We will see

Randy Shannon is rumored to be the new DC at Tennessee. I kind of like it.

Bill O'Brien reported to be announced Saturday.
Quote:
New England Patriots offensive coordinator Bill O'Brien has agreed to become the coach at Penn State, according to sources.
The Nittany Lions plan to make the move official with an announcement Saturday, the sources said.
Terms of the deal are unknown.
O'Brien interviewed with Penn State on Thursday, his agent, Joe Linta, told The Associated Press.

Again; as a Patriots fan, I'm not really going to miss(the timing blows though) the guy that much or one who I felt was super integral to our success as an offense the past few years. Penn State is in a bad position, but I'm still pretty surprised that they weren't able to do better.

Even though O'Brien might not have the best track record, he is highly regarded in coaching circles. He was selected OC for the Pats for a reason. Every great head coach was an assistant at once point, so I think he deserves a chance. My college head coach was with Chip Kelly at New Hampshire before he got hired to Oregon, so who knows how well he will do. He had the nuts to take the position and I like that.
Some advice: Announce tomorrow and GET RECRUITING!!!
I find it strange that PSU has yet to confirm this even though its all over the place. Is there a reason why they are waiting until saturday and not announcing tomorrow? I also find it interesting that nothing has been reported yet on fox and they practically own the NFL

He was selected as the offensive coordinator because there was no one else on the staff to fulfill those responsibilities and we didn't want to hire outside. He wasn't even named the coordinator officially until this year(after three seasons of being involved in playcalling) and was thought to be one of several in house candidates taking increased responsibility on offense early on. So no, I really don't think he was the offensive coordinator for any particular reason, other than the fact he was the best candidate from within the organization, which Belichick has let get thin over the years.
Oh...and his playcalling wasn't the greatest in the world either. The past two games, we had some major problems getting things off the ground, going down big to two crappy teams early. We were at our best this year when Brady was taking charge of things and changing stuff up at the line of scrimmage in the no huddle.

As long as they keep Vandy and LJ Sr, I'd be OK with it.

I don't know if it was mentioned but O'Brien is staying with the Pats until they are out of the playoffs.

They aren't going to keep anyone from the old staff. They have to clean house.

Pats' O Coordinator, huh?
That's the easiest job on earth.
I hope O'Brien was paying attention to Belichick.

Unfortunately, this is probably true.
LJ is a great coach and recruiter. I would imagine he can land a job somewhere.

This looks like a terrible hire and I really can't see this one playing out well at all.
