The best beer on that list is probably Southern Tier Creme Brulee. Founders Breakfast Stout is probably the next-best.

Kind of conditional since I don't recall if I've had a lot of those Belgians and I haven't had some of those American beers either.

Local liquor shop added some Ballast Point, finally got to try the Sculpin IPA, which deff worth the couple extra bucks over the Big Eye IPA, which is also delicious.

I had one last night as well.

The special variations on it, Kentucky BS and Canadian BS, are amazing.

As far as I'm concerned the best ciders are Bulmers and Rekorderlig. If you like it sweet maybe Koppaberg too.

Also I work in a liquor store and I don't know of the vast majority of beers in this thread, and we have a **** tonne of beer.

You live in Australia and most of the beers we post are American microbrews.

The only American beers we carry are Miller, Budweiser, Sam Adams and Sierra Nevada. It's quite disappointing really.

Yeah, that selection blows. Sierra isn't bad though.

Plus it's pretty cost-effective. Pretty sure Maximus (and all of their other regular big bottles) is like $4 at the store.

I'd rather have a Hopstoopid, but I do like Maximus.

I don't think it's "hoppier", but it tastes like hops. If that makes any sense to you. It doesn't have the hops bite that Maximus and some other IPAs do.

Highly highly recommend this if you ever are in the Maine Old Port area. Right now it's my favorite beer. Also the wings at this place were recently just voted 3rd best in the nation.

My first home brew was bottled. It was suppose to be a black IPA but I didn't get enough SRMs still turned out to be a great dark amber IPA

I drastically changed the recipe from my first post I walked away from the mash and went with extract.

Fermentables

1 can of Briess Amber LME
8 oz of Sparkling Amber DME
.4 oz of Carafa special III steeped @ 150 F for 30 minutes

Hops

.25 oz Chinook 60 Min
.25 oz Cascade 45 Min
.25 oz Cascade 30 min
.5 oz centennial 30 min
.5 oz Citra 15 Min
.5 oz Citra flame out.

you should've at least quadrupled the hops. how easy is the IPA? been tempted to homebrew, but i only know people who've gone for amber-y styles, and that's not overly appealing.

It is only a 2 gallon batch. So the hop level is adequate for the IBUs I wanted. I'd say the hardest part of brewing any beer is the waiting. If you start from extracts it isn't that difficult aside from the aforementioned waiting. There is also a Dark Malt extract if you are looking for a black IPA. (Which was the effect I was trying to get with the Carafa III) Basically it is a matter of measuring. Boiling water and adding stuff.

I had this yesterday (Underworld Double IPA). It was flat and disappointing. The regular IPA was way better.

Also, MOAR STONE DOUBLE IPA THIS WEEKEND!

(Which was the effect I was trying to get with the Carafa III) Basically it is a matter of measuring. Boiling water and adding stuff.
i was mostly joking, since about all i like is hoppy beer. but word, doesn't sound too tough... is the equipment expensive? did you buy local, or online?

i'm biased to the point of being incapable of saying anything good about fort collins, that said, i like their black ipa, but i generally dislike belgian ipas. the.. sweet i guess, does absolutely nothing for me. their rocky mountain ipa is ok, but nothing special. all that said, it might be like asking me about a ski resort... i'm completely spoiled by epic breweries within walking distance.

agreed. as above, but it just didn't do much for me as an 'ipa'.
