How about Nick Montana from Washington. Similar situation as Sims, won't get a chance to play till his senior year.

Makes a lot of sense for Sims to play pitch and catch in his backyard with his star WR Tim Smith from HS. The "Tide" has turned.

Well one guy who as already been released from his scholarship is Jeff Godfrey. He had a spectacular freshman year for Central Florida. He took a serious step back during his sophomore season and was often replaced in the second half by redshirt freshman Blake Bortles. Godfrey saw the writing on the wall and decided to transfer.

What we don't know is where he will transfer. He is not allowed to transfer to a C-USA or Big East school. It's going to be hard to gauge where he will end up. Most of the schools he was interested in wanted him as a corner back and not a QB. My gut feeling is that after having some success as a college QB, he will want to remain a QB. As he is from Miami, Florida Atlantic and Florida Atlantic are obvious favorites. If I had to guess, I'd say Florida International, but it could be either.

I reckon he is 5'11" if that and wants to be viewed as a prospect LOL. Denard has a better chance.

Jeff Scott could be leaving Ole Miss. He is a Jeff Demps kind of guy, somebody will want him.

I guess I don't understand the logic used in this sort of thought process. The idea of transferring for playing time doesn't work out that often, and even if a player transfers, it doesn't buy him a lot of time.

Take Sims as an example. If he stays at Bama, he is one play away - one blitzing cornerback away - from taking over as starting QB. Worst case scenario he starts his senior season after being a back-up.

That used to be the norm...or close to it. Players went in to compete. Sims had every chance to win the job and didn't. McCarron did, and based on his development over the course of the season, he deserved it. Bama's receiving corp was a utilitarian bunch this season, lacking a big threat like they had with Julio Jones. Chris Carter's son was supposed to be that threat, but due to problems with his transfer he had to sit out the season. Even with the lack of play makers, McCarron finished the season with over 2600 yards, 16 touchdowns, and 5 ints. He had the highest completion percentage in the conference at almost 67%, was 3rd in passing, and 2nd in efficiency.

If Sims transfers, he will have to sit out a season - no redshirt since he used it last year...then he has to win the starting job...no guarantee. At BEST, if he wins a starting job, he has 2 years to play 2. If he stays at Alabama, at WORST he will continue to develop in the system (under new OC Nussmeier who is supposed to be a great QB coach), gain playing time, and then will have one season to step into the starting role.

Saban may get vilified on NFL forums because of the way he left Miami, but there was nothing dishonest about what he told Sims. He was promised the opportunity to compete for a starting job. He didn't lose the job in the opener where he shared time...as with any QB competition there is a process. According to some reports, Sims was slow at grasping the offense. The final piece of the puzzle that gave the starting job to McCarron was game-time performance. McCarron saw the field better, handled pressure better, and if you watched the game you know there was little doubt who the better QB was....

Philip Sims has the potential to become a great QB, but I don't know that throwing him into a new system where he has to start learning the offense all over again (something that reportedly took him time at Alabama) does him any favors. He could end up like Star Jackson. Star was a four star recruit and the #11 rated QB coming out of high school. He ended up transferring to D1AA Georgia State and was unable to win the starting job and left GSU after one season - I dunno where he is now.

QB is a tricky position to transfer. Any other position is an easier transition.

The "I'm too good to ride the pine" mentality is a problem, really. Someone has to be the backup, and there is no guarantee you won't be it - no matter where you are. Entitlement may be normative in the NFL, but in college it is a character flaw.

I really am glad you chose Sims to single out, because I want to know how he will handle this. My whole take is his best bet is to transfer. He has to be on special people meds if he thinks there will be competition heading into the spring. Saban will never hear the end of it. How do you not start the Nat'l title winning QB the following year? There is no way possible Sims will become an NFL prospect with only 1 full season as a starter, including those outstanding HS credentials. Also who is to say Saban won't bring in the #1 QB prospect of the incoming HS class. Anything is possible for Sims "NFL Future" as a transfer.

Joe Flacco Pittsburgh/Delaware
Pat Devlin Penn State/Delaware
Jevan Snead Texas/Ole Miss
Ryan Mallett Michigan/Arkansas
Cam Newton Florida/Auburn
Russell Wilson NC State/Wisconsin

Need I say more about the successful QB transfers in college?

Flacco went Delaware - a FCS school where he was immediately eligible...same for Pat Devlin. Russel Wilson had already graduated and used the loop-hole for graduate programs not offered at their undergrad institution, allowing them to play immediately - and he was already a "Star" QB prior to transfer...and don't forget the reason he transferred. Cam Newton was a JUCO player and could play immediately, additionally, he was a "perfect storm" QB - freak of nature athlete and Auburn ran an offense that utilized his size/speed.

You defeated your own argument that "no way Sims becomes a NFL prospect with 1 full season as a starter." Several of the quarterbacks you listed were "one and done" as starters. There have been MANY NFL QB's who were one year starters in college.

I didn't say there will be competition heading into next spring - however there WAS competition last spring. He got beat out.

Unless Sims transfers to a FCS or D2 school, he will have 2 years of eligibility to play 2, and if there is anything to the rumors that he had difficulty learning the offense at Alabama, starting anywhere he transfers is not a given. At Alabama he is one play away from being the starter at any given time. If he is really as good as you think, one season will get him to the league.

How do you not start the Nat'l title winning QB the following year? There is no way possible Sims will become an NFL prospect with only 1 full season as a starter, including those outstanding HS credentials. Also who is to say Saban won't bring in the #1 QB prospect of the incoming HS class. Anything is possible for Sims "NFL Future" as a transfer.

Joe Flacco Pittsburgh/Delaware
Pat Devlin Penn State/Delaware
Jevan Snead Texas/Ole Miss
Ryan Mallett Michigan/Arkansas
Cam Newton Florida/Auburn
Russell Wilson NC State/Wisconsin

Need I say more about the successful QB transfers in college?
You can toss Nick Foles in there as well from Michigan State.

May it be due to the fact he is not from Cali or Texas, you feel this way?

I still think one of the Florida QBs transfers. They were both top-five QBs in the 2011 recruiting class. Only one can start. If one leaves after this year, he'll still be able to start for a team for two seasons.

Who is the other QB you are referring to besides Jameis Winston?

At the end of the season I can actually see Alabama RB Dee Hart saying Coach Saban! Grant me my release. Hart just has so many backs ahead of him and with Derrick Henry in next Fall there still won't be any carries for Hart.

Looks like Brissett will be on the move since Driskel played well this year.
