Default Mayock Updates Rankings

He only tweaked the DT and CB rankings but it is still interesting if just for that.

http://www.nfl.com/draft/story/09000...2012-nfl-draft

He added Still which I think is deserving and made Gilmore his #2 CB with Kilpatrick #3, Jenkins #4 and Josh Robinson #5.

This should shake up a few mocks.

Don't really see what he likes so much about Gilmore.

I'd like to see Mayock do a little more work if he's going to be paid and hyped as such a tremendous draft guru.

Start putting out a top 10-15 ranking at each position. It's not hard to figure out who the top 5 prospects are at a given position for the most part.

Rather than just having a tendancy to go out on a limb here and there and put some prospect at the top of his rankings who typically doesn't belong there just to draw attention to himself.... I'd rather see him start going a little deeper into his rankings.

A lot of good players get left out of the messes he likes to call his top 5.

I like how he ranks Wilson over Miller. I agree that they're close, but don't see why so many people choose Miller over Wilson. I would have Martin at 4th, but his pass protection probably vaults him to 2nd for him so I can't argue against that.

His opinion of McFadden was dead on. It took 3 years for DMC to change the way he trained and dedicate himself to learning how to be a pro RB.

Size, bulk, physicality, confidence, ball skills, return ability, outstanding cone drill, great time in Indianapolis, SEC pedigree. Probably a first-round pick.

Change probably a first round pick to probably a top 20 pick and I agree with everything you say

I agree, he said clearly, he didn't think he could take the pounding physically but he did underestimate him a bit about how good he could be if he could stay healthy.

You can see in him putting Martin #2, that he really likes physical RB's over skill types. Every scout has his bias's. You just have to realize what Mayock's are and adjust accordingly depending on what you are looking for.

Eh, he let too many guys make completions on him when he had a chance to break up the pass in most of the SC games I've watched over the past two years(admittedly though, a lot of that may've been because SC ran a lot of zone). Sure, the H/W/S stuff is nice, but I've never seen anything out of him that would scream "first-rounder" to me in all the games I've watched of his.

And extremely inconsistent tape. Gilmore didn't have a very good year from an actual football standpoint. There are some plays on his SC tape where he gets absolutely torched.

Watching the Senior Bowl coverage it was obvious he was way, way behind where he was at the same time the year before. I remember saying he had watched 1 game of Brandon Weeden at that time!

The other day on Path to the Draft he was saying it's not the amount of tape you watch - but the type of tape. So just watch the big matchups. Can't say I agree!!

I wouldn't count on Mayock being off on DB's. He played DB as a pro and is excellent in analyzing them.

He's doing extensive film work on prospects right now and even after all the pro days are done. Pro teams are doing exactly the same thing once they have the results from the Combine.

Ranking players like say a top 100 is really impossible because so many teams use different offensive and defensive systems that you won't find two boards exactly the same, with many, many variations. It is fun for draftniks but in reality, you would have to do 32 different ones to come close.

I can tell you this, if Mayock did a top 100, it would be for a basic 4-3 team that likes bigger RB's and TE's who can block. And those are just some of his bias's.

McFadden became more productive when a) he became healthy and b) defenders weren't tripping him up in the backfield. The idiot Mayock claimed that McFadden was slower than his timed speed, that his "legs went dead with contact" and that Mendenhall was better. If McFadden could have stayed healthy, he would have ran away with the league MVP.

That's because this was extremely true in college. Mayock wasn't the only one who had reservations about McFadden's ability to translate to the NFL. I was right there with him, and I know a ton of other people were as well. McFadden has a thin frame and at times in college and early in his NFL career he was unable to gain YaC because he didn't run low and didn't have the leg drive to move piles.

That's a perfect example of Mayock being right, not wrong.
