Default Impressive Pro Day by Michael Hayes of Houston

Ran a 4.55
Benched 23 reps.
5'9 200lbs.
Catches the ball great out of the backfield and runs hard for a smaller guy.

Houston fan mad we aren't talking about his precious ideals.

How did predicting Patrick Edwards would run a 4.3 work out? 4.58? That's close...

I'm not real impressed with a 4.55 Pro Day forty from a RB who is of that stature, nor his 7.12 3-cone or 9'9" broad jump. Not bad numbers, but not the kind of explosion teams are looking for in a smaller back. Compare those numbers to a guy like LaMIchael James, who is similar in size and stature, who ran in the low 4.4's with a 6.88 3-cone and 10'3" broad (their vertical was the same. James has pretty well solidified his position as a 2nd round back, and his measurables show a significantly higher level of explosion.

FWIW, I am a huge small school fan and pull really hard for the underdog players. Patrick Edwards failed to impress as well. Case Keenum posted decent numbers and someone will be impressed with his work ethic and determination, and could get drafted late. Overall my honest assessment of Houston's prospects this year is one of disappointment.

If there is someone from Houston that showed impressive numbers to me it is LB Sammy Brown, who ran in the low 4.6's and had a 37" vertical, with a 7.13 3-cone. I have been saying all along that he is the kind of player who could be a steal in the late rounds and someone may find a great backup in him that could develop into a starter down the road.

I'm more impressed with Michael Smith, Utah State.

If he can run between the tackles, 4.55 is fine, but you need to be 4.4- if you're going to get to the edge.

IMO a smaller back really needs to have a lot of speed and quickness at the next level to be successful. No one is drafting a 200 pound back to pound the ball. There are several guys who have at least 15-20 lbs on Hayes that ran in the same range as Hayes, some of them faster. Additionally, every guy under 200 lbs that ran at the combine was faster. His 3-cone time was middle of the road, as was his vertical so he doesn't possess exceptional explosion. And he played in an offense that throws so much that defenses often have 5 or 6 DB's in the gme. So what measurable does Hayes bring to the table that stands out from the rest?

Additionally, his production was decent with 727 yards on 138 carries and 11 TD's, but 355 of those yards came on 16 carries when he broke free. Besides that he had 372 yards on 122 carries for barely 3 yards a carry. Considering how wide open the Houston offense is, this doesn't tell me that he is an exceptionally hard runner between the tackles. It tells me that he is a good runner in the open field, but when he doesn't have a lot of room to run he goes down at initial contact. Felix Jones had similar numbers his last year in college, but he has shown in the NFL that he doesn't break tackles well and that he isn't very tough between the tackles.

Sammy Brown will be a bust because he plays weak and has no lower body strength. I had high expectations of him coming into the season, but he needs to be in space to find any success.

Patrick Edwards ran a 4.3 last year at the junior pro day, he is hurt right now thus his slower time (unless you really think he just got slower). Personally I think he probably shouldn't have ran at all.

I think Edwards, Keenum and Brown all get drafted with Hayes either super late or UDFA.

Charles Sims and DJ Hayden are two guys that will get drafted from Houston in coming years.

You guys are missing the point, Hayes is a physical runner (way more so than James). Comparing the two is foolish, they are totally different players. Hayes has the body to add weight too, catches the ball great an can un between the tackles. Haven't really seen James excell in either of those areas.. But ya, dude is fast.

Lmao, you post a video of him running by a Penn State safety that ran a 4.65 coming out of High School, and it's pretty obvious by that video that his 4.65 was overrated.

That isn't a reputable link. It's pretty obvious you're talking out of your butt in order to hype Houston players. You're just digging yourself into a deeper hole.

At least I dont go out of my way to slam players. Edwards runs a sub 4.4, did you expect him to run that with a tweaked hammy at the UH pro day?

You probably think Ty Hilton sucks too.

So ... no evidence of the claimed sub 4.4 outside of poor anecdotal evidence in that video? It should be easy to prove if he's done it.

That's what I'm trying to say.

The guy mistakes it for going "out of my way to slam players," but his homer glasses make it hard for him to realize he is going out of his way to hype his school and can't see that I'm just giving an objective opinion when he posts.

You don't realize that you're the one going out of your way, seeing as you come to this forum basically for the sole purpose of hyping Houston players...

And no, I don't hate T.Y. Hilton because he has legit, PROVEN 4.3 speed whereas Edwards runs a 4.58, and the only person who says he runs a 4.3 is you, and since you can't provide a link, I presume these 4.3's happen in your dreams.

You have you're small receiver that can't separate, I'll take the guy who at least has dynamic return ability at the next level.

Good video here, and it doesn't just show balls he caught. For such a little guy he gets off the line of scrimmage well, primarily because of extreme quickness.

He ran a 4.3 at the Junior Pro day at U of H in 2011. I cant find a link to provide this, there is no info online regarding it. Edwards is very quick, maybe more quick than fast but I think he will be a nice slot man and punt returner in the NFL.
