I think that is implying Battle Royale wasn't insanely cheesy, so if that is the case...

I love the movie, but Christ that constant bouncing basketball in the gym scene is ******* cheesy as hell.

None of it holds a candle to A Serbian Film. I'm serious, don't watch it. Unless you're a sick F*** like me. I mean, don't even read about it or watch reviews for it...

But it's also a really, really good movie... if you can stomach what you're watching.

The Robert Pattinson tween-fest will make me vomit but I absolutely LOVE David Cronenberg and I cannot WAIT to see what he does with DeLillo's work...

How is it a good movie? Using shocks instead of a decent story is ******* stupid, just like it was with Salo and just like it is now with Human Centipede and Serbian Film.

Human Centipede is trash compared to Salo and A Serbian Film. Salo is arguably one of the more important films of memory. Maybe not in America but it's political connotation got its writer/director assassinated. As for A Serbian Film, it is filmed brilliantly, the soundtrack is phenomenal, and the metaphorical narrative on Serbian government and military involvement with its people is truly palpable.

If you hate it, that's fine. It's truly not for everyone. It's hard to watch. But to immediately dispose of it in the "shock-for-shock-sake" bin is naive.

Except they are shock for shock's sake. They can accomplish a much better metaphor without having a father **** his own kid or ******* a new born child.

"As soon as you're born you're F***ed."

I agree it seemed unnecessary. But to discount the entire movie because of a small amount of content that is truly distasteful would cause you to miss alot of really nice cenema.

A father being basically forced to **** his own son in the ass is not metaphorical for anything other than being a sick, twisted human being.

Thank you, Caddy. If you want a good movie that does subtle criticism of governments well, go look at The Lives of Others or The Conversations. Those were masterpieces that didn't go to ridiculous lengths to shock the audience to make a point, they just had beautiful acting and an engaging story.

Which is the EXACT thought the writer feels about the Serbian government. It's disgusting, I get it. But to be so uber sensitive over celluloid art is pretty interesting. I'm tremendously less offended by this disgusting obvious fiction than I am by much of what is passed off as legitimate news in our country.

At the same time, I prefaced all I said with "don't watch it, don't read about it, or watch a review about it."

It's not meant for those that get sensitive about what fiction they watch.

Oh please, the vast majority of 'metaphors' that people read into just don't exist. A Serbian Film was crude for the sake of being crude. Also I disagree that it was filmed in a particularly interesting or exciting way.

And that's a ******* stupid way to go about it. There are far better ways to write a movie in such a manner other than using shocks, it's a cheap gimmick and it's for ****** ass writers or directors to make a point and actually getting accepted by pretentious dickheads. I'm not calling you that here phlysac, but I'm just saying it's a stupid premise. Again, go to the examples I listed.

Why did you guys watch it then? Either you didn't watch it and have a strong opinion based on not seeing it, or you watched it absolutely knowing it was supposed to be the most disturbing movie ever made.

Stay away from Mordem, then guys. It's supposed to be similar yet cheaply filmed, and is designed as a "found-footage" "snuff" style film.

I haven't quite gotten the nerve to consider watching yet.

Who the hell knows really, I watched some of it and just read a long, long plot summary of it that described it well enough. And I forgot Requiem for a Dream. THAT's a movie that uses shocks in a manner that actually helps make a point.

Well Salo is owned by Criterion. So if it's "pretensious" then it's value is observed by one of the most important film companies in the world.

I watched it to see what the fuss was about. Then I realised it was just a movie that wanted to shock for the sake of shocking.

Yes, I'm aware of that. It's just, I don't need to see an Italian army rape young boys, then force them to eat ****, then burn off parts of their bodies just to use as an allegory of fascist Italy. You know what would have worked better? An actual insight on the fascism in Italy, not watching scatology and rape with no point to it.
