Absolutely. Just trying to understand why so many people have him as a 2nd rounder.

And you saying that the only comparison he has to Fitzgerald is they both run in the 4.5s just tells me how much you know about him.

lol...Numbers on a stopwatch at the combine and actual football performance are two very different things. The scouting combine is, and always has been, overrated when it comes to evaluating established football players. The combine is a great place to find potential. It's where you go to find guys like Dontari Poe. Workout Warriors. But to compare the numbers of Larry Fitzgerald and Alshon Jeffery and say that they are similar players based on that, you're nuts.

I don't care if he ran a 3.82...Okay, okay, if he did that then MAYBE I'd have a look at him as a 1st round prospect.

I need to ask you: Have you ever watched anything else than Jeffery's highlights on youtube? I mean, anyone can look great when you compress to year worth of highlights into 3 minutes... Fitz is headed for the HoF, Jeffery doesn't even belong in the same conversation.

Yes I've seen a lot of Alshon.

And I'm not comparing him to Larry Fitzgerald the Hall of Famer, I'm comparing him to the Larry Fitzgerald coming out of Pitt.

Still no comparison.

Larry Fitzgerald was the #1 WR prospect in a class of REALLY good WR prospects. There were 7 WR's taken in the first round in 2004. Think that'll happen this year?

Alshon jeffrey is imensely talented, but definitely not a top 10 prospect.
He needs to refine his routes and his consistency has been questioned.
That, and hell need to maintain his weight.
He once weighed in around 230.
He's got great potential as a late firsy early second guy

Didn't he get into a fight in the SC bowl game with the DB & they both got booted?

I might be thinking of Gilmore, but I'm pretty sure it was in South Carolina last bowl game.

I'm having a hard time understanding why people have become so high on Floyd yet so down on Alshon. The thing people talk about when they are hyping Floyd is his size, hands, body control, jump ball ability yet Alshon does all those things a little bit better and more consistently. When Floyd ran that nice official time, the questions about his separation seem to of faded some where as with Jeffery that's still the #1 question with him. I just find it odd given that the guy who is being given somewhat of a pass on his ability to separate is the guy who's stiff in his movements and has arguably has the worst quickness and agility of any noteworthy WR in this draft. Alshon isn't Greg Jennings either but he's proven to be more adept and running sharp breaking routes, being low out of his breaks and is a smoother athlete overall. Even if you're saying that Floyd's edge with his burst cancels out Alshon's edge with his agility, I would still give Alshon the edge in the hands/jump ball area. Unless you're really seriously concerned about Jeffery's weight, I'm really having a tough seeing why one guy is being hyped as a potential top 10 pick and the other guy doesn't belong in the first round according to some.

But where will Alshon get drafted? It's really hard to say whether he'll be a mid first rounder or a mid 2nd rounder. I expect there to be a lot disparity in WR rankings from team to team because of the lack of elite blue chip talents at the position. Though of all the big names, where Alshon will be selected is the hardest for me to gauge. I wouldn't completely rule out top 10 though I wouldn't expect it either.

Great post Tackle. My biggest problems with Alshon are derived from his play. Not from his measurables or his weight. When I say the guy is lazy, I mean he's lazy on the field. I personally like a WR that is willing to do whatever he's asked and do it well. WR is the premier position in the NFL, and it should be held to additional scrutiny.

As for Michael Floyd, the guy reminds me of David Terrell. I have no interest in him. I do think someone will be foolish enough to take him in the top 15, but the guy that hasn't even been mentioned here might be the best of the bunch: Stephen Hill. Hill is raw, and inexperienced, but there's no question he put up the best combine numbers and he's physically as gifted as anyone else in the draft. Kiper has Quick as his #4, and that's another obstacle to Jeffrey's draft stock. At the moment...screw it, let's bust out our lists in terms of "predictive NFL production."

1. Stephen Hill
2. Justin Blackmon
3. Kendall Wright
4. Brian Quick
5. Alshon Jeffrey
6. Michael Floyd
etc.

Just for a more simple answer, no because there are 10 players off the top of my head who are better prospects. He's talented but there's more uncertainty with him than others. He may turn out to be the best WR in this draft. He may be a bust. But I guarantee that his weight will be a non factor. This is the most overblown concern I can remember seeing on these boards. If he had a competent QB last year we would have forgotten about this "weight issue" over the course of the season.

Completely disagree. Floyd has stiffness through his hips but has quick feet. Watch his first step. He's even returned a few punts and looked very good doing so. I think he's clearly a better yac guy than Alshon. Mayock the other day commented that Floyd has just as good first step quickness as Julio Jones.

You can't honestly say that Alshon's skillset is as close to as polished as Larry was as a sophomore. People already knew that Larry would be one of the greatest tacticians at the WR in the history of the game before he even got in the NFL... it was apparent his speed numbers meant 0.

Larry would have a chance of being the first receiver taken no matter what draft he came out in, even against guys with much better triangle numbers.

You're forgetting how skilled Larry was, if you ever knew at all.

How quickly people forget about Roy Willliams being ranked higher than Fitz. I remember Mortenson saying that Roy was ranked higher on most boards.

Yea, I think Mort had Roy Williams rated almost at high as he did Matt Jones.
