Would it be crazy to start straight with night actions, I mean, when these things usually start someone has died, and therefore you would want to investigate immediately if you could. I know you would have no basis on who to go after, but it might mix things up and make the first "day" better?

Another thing is that they defy normal storytelling conventions. Normally, in just about every story ever, the bad guys make the first move. That's how we know there's about to be a plot. If there aren't any bad guys doing anything, it's just business as usual.
Lynching on day 1 is like lynching for no apparent reason. Like going to a town hall meeting and just lynching someone because you didn't like their face or something.

Generally in Mafia Games, the bad guys DO do something first, that is how the game starts in the intros.

One thing I read before when I was doing research before this game said about having a "Night Zero."
No one dies, but people with investigative powers can use them. That way there is a little evidence on day 1. There is still plenty of room for confusion and what not, which is what the game is about, but at least there is a little evidence out there to go by instead of the mostly random "you seem suspicious...no, YOU seem suspicious!" talk of day 1.

There are multiple ways to get things moving.. Starting the game in the night phase isn't unheard of but far less common

I think that could be a good way to start in a bigger game say 30+ people

Lynching on day 1 reveals a ton of information about people. There's a reason we've decided it's the best way to go.

By lynching GG you can tell, who followed the crowd, who was reluctant to lynch him and who were the first to lynch him. If you just go no lynch straight away you learn nothing and have to rely on people with powers, however their actions could easily be tampered with.
Its not as if lynching day one has meant the mafia wins. The town usually always wins, even if a good person is lynched day one.

Lynching gives some information. No lynching gives zero information. It's clear which is better.

I'm not arguing for a no lynch, but if all we're going to do is piss and moan and try to squeeze water from a rock, how about we limit the time and just all go with our gut feelings when it comes time to vote?
Or my other idea with a "Night Zero." Investigators can use their power right away, so there is at least some legitimate info out there.
I just hate wasting that much time arguing over nothing. It's stupid. I can't believe that no one, at any point, ever, thought of a better way.

usually you have time limits as well as something like Soft lynch, amount of lynch votes which automatically triggers a timer till the person with most lynches is lynched.

You could piece together enough of the series if you watched all of DBZ. They show pretty much anything important that happens in flashbacks.
That's what I did until DB came to Toonami after DBZ had its run. I think I've only seen the complete series once, but I saw the first couple of arcs a few times.

I bought the first six seasons (up to the end of the Cell games) used on Amazon a few months back. Each season was between like $12 and $20 dollars. Then I marathoned them over the course of a couple weeks. Occasionally I'll just rewatch a certain part that I like. My cable is acting up tonight so I just started watching the beginning of Goku/Frieza fight.
It was one of my best investments in a while. I got the original Funmation dubs...the ones that were on Toonami. They also have DBZ Kai on DVD now. Since everything is more condensed (filler taken out, long power up sequences shortened, etc.) it took them like two DVDs to get through 3 seasons of what I have.
I didn't like some of the Kai voice acting though, and since they were newer, they were more expensive. So, I stuck with what I watched as a kid. I'm happy with my choice.
