I have no idea how the Saints pulled off the Hawthorne signing but I think it means the end of Vilma and Shanle, especially to save money. I'd expect both to be cut very soon.

Same here. Cutting Shanle and Vilma would save about $6.6 mil, iirc.
Have a starting LB group of Chamberlain, Lofton, and Hawthorne w/ Tez, Casillas as backups and I'd be a happy camper.

I'm not gonna lie, I'm going to hate to see Vilma go, cap necessity or other-wise.

I just listened to the Williams audio; I'm not sure what the big deal is.

Thanks. I've always been a Dunbar fan since his BC days. Probably followed Williams to STL thats too bad.

Neither do I to be honest with you. I've played football and that's not uncommon to hear from a defensive coach and I used to hear things like that in middle school. The only things that I didn't like was talking about Crabtree's ACL... now, our players didn't purposely target his ACL but still. Oh, and talking about how he'll pay for the first one.

Just out of curiosity, what's the word on Charles Brown? I liked him coming out in 2010 and was wondering how he's been.

I have to agree with the both of you. And no, that's not because I'm a die-hard Saints fan. It's because Gregg Williams' pregame speech was no different than any other coach telling his team to go after a star player or to "play to the whistle".
The problem is, since Commissioner Goody-too-shoes wants to crack down players now because he suddenly cares about player safety (although this is the same league that endorsed products like Madden video games that featured "hit sticks" and ESPN pregame shows that has segments like "Jacked Up!" and so on), the commish decided to make an example of New Orleans.
Of course, the other thing that is seemingly being swept under the rug, is that the filmmaker Pamphilon released the audio of the Williams speech against the will of Saints defensive back Steve Gleason. The whole reason that guy was in the locker room and allowed behind-the-scenes access of the Saints and ultimately, Williams' speech was because of that documentary.
Sadly, this jerk probably figured he'd make more money and get more notoriety if he leaked the clip of this speech than he would from the upcoming documentary.

He was injured his rookie year and struggled in practice last year. Looks to be nothing more than a backup OL

Im glad with the moves we have made for the LB core. We needed Shanle out asap.
Honestly, I say our biggest needs are DE/SS (F U ROMAN HARPER)

Loomis is amazing. Hawthorne's contract details
Quote:
Hawthorne signed a five-year, $19 million deal, which included a $3.8 million signing bonus.
The deal is very cap friendly this season. Hawthorne will earn a $700,000 base salary in 2012, giving him a salary cap figure of only $1.46 million.
In 2013, Hawthorne is scheduled to earn a $3 million roster bonus and a $1 million base salary.
In 2014, he'll earn a $1 million base salary and $1 million roster bonus.
In 2015, he'll earn a $2 million base salary and $2.5 million roster bonus.
In 2016, he's scheduled to earn a $4 million base salary.
As of noon Friday, the Saints were approximately $420,000 under the salary cap.

Shanle's cap hit numbers stand at $2,950,000.
Vilma's are at $6,600,000 this year. With us being less than half a million below cap, I see us cutting/trading as well.

Loomis is a ******* cap magician.
And yeah, CJ, I don't see anyway around not cutting at least one of Shanle or Vilma.
And, oh by the way, Courtney Roby was re-signed today

Do you think we will see a draft day trade involving either two?

I love that we get to start the season with three games against opponenets that on paper should be avagerage to below average. We probably have a lot of players suspended early, so not having to face the best early should help.
I'm a little more pessimistic. I say we go 9-7 and miss the playoffs.
I'm surprised we get four primetime games (for now). I honestly thought the league would minimize the number of primetime games for us this year.

Those are going to be the easiest games to cover. All you have to do is re-hash the "bounty-gate" crap while only occasionally saying something half-ass intelligent about the game or having an original thought.

In the final forum mock, with our 3rd round pick, I selected Markelle Martin, Safety from Oklahoma State.
Please discuss.

Not a fan of Martin. If we went safety I'd say the later rounds is where we should draft one. I'd prefer a DE, DT, or TE in the 3rd
