Tyson Jackson restructured his contract

Playing-time incentives had pushed Jackson's 2012 base salary to $8.005 million, but he'll now make a fully guaranteed $4 million to go along with a $250,000 workout bonus. An additional $500,000 is available through playing-time incentives, while a $2.5 million option bonus that had been due in 2014 has been pushed onto this year's cap. Jackson's 2013 base salary remains a prohibitive $14.72 million, though "just" $3.22 million of it is guaranteed.

This was a duh move for both sides. There is still a good possibility that he will be cut next year. This restructure isnt the final move. How he plays this year will determine a lot

He knows it now too. He knows he needs to play really well this year to be on the team next year.

I should say that I don't think Tyson is a bad player. He sets the edge well and plays the run extremely well. I know he isn't expected to get a bunch of sacks, but I'd like some kind of pressure.

I think Tyson is a fine player, just drafted way too high and paid way too much, but I don't think he's necessarily a liability out there.

I think his athleticism is starting to catch back up to his increase in size. He gave up a ton of athleticism to put on size in his first couple of years and he was just slow and lacked explosiveness (which is why he hasn't been that good). We saw him regain a lot of that last year and it was nice to see. Hopefully it continues to grow.

Would've been fine as a third rounder, but the third pick is, as has been mentioned, way too high.

I think Pioli will want to keep him as long as he continues to improve, just not at the god awful #3 overall contract he had. Thank god those days are done and gone.
