I prefer Kevin Smith's potential 5 catches for 50 yards more than Ryan Grant's 3 ypc production from actually running.
He outperformed him on a per carry basis last year against the same defenses. Smith was 4.9 YPC and Grant was around a 4.2.

It's also debatable as to whether Ryan Grant was fully recovered from his broken leg throughout the year. Depending on the severity, that is an injury that can linger for a while.

Atogwe should definitley be given an offer. I wonder if they are waiting for the price to come down and then pull a tulloch type deal for 1 year.
What about Cedric Benson? Up the middle type of guy but has proven he can be productive. Would be a great complement to Best and with Leshoure's questions with suspensions and injury he may not be a bad option. Once again I'd only want it on a 1 or 2 year deal. We cannot expect Best to play 16 games this year. Hate to say it, but it would be foolish of Mayhew.

I think that's the whole key right there. I don't mind doing a RB by Committee. But I just don't think Jahvid Best is long for this league with his history of injuries. I give him probably another 2-3 years before he's out of the league.

Best and Leshoure with Kevin Smith backing them up should be fine. Bell or Williams can be next men up if one of them is suspended or hurt. I only recommend a new back if Best and Smith both get hurt.

Doesn't hurt to have Grant on the roster over Joique Bell or Williams IMO as the Lions will carry 4 since they have no FB. Williams proves he wasn't a short yardage back and he didn't do much in special teams. Bell is an unknown.

Lions signed Sean Jones. Played for the Bucs last 2 years. Did ok in Philly in 09 and Bucs in 10 but brutal in 2011 for Bucs especially in coverage. Better run defender than Spievey but who isn't.

If Jones can play special teams or beat out Erik Coleman he will make the team. John Wendling stays for special teams. Lions may keep 5 safeties though after last year losing Delmas, Coleman and Vincent Fuller plus Spievey playing hurt before turning to Chris Harris off the street.

Lions added Jerome Murphy and cut Kevin Barnes. Drayton Florence on IR now but it's the new short term IR and he could come back in 6-8 weeks whihc is good because the Lions will have other injuries I'm sure. I liked Murphy coming out in 2010 but he was cut by Rams and Saints. Shot in the dark but the Lions are desperate at corner. Glad Houston is back and Bentley should be back.

I got confirmation from a Lions beat writer that they don't owe the Redskins anything for Barnes. The pick was, in fact, conditional on something that he never reached while here.

Nate Burleson has restructured his contract which reduces his 2013 base salary from $4.5 million to $2 million.
Mike Patterson, released earlier this week by the Eagles, will be visiting the Lions.

Right now we are $5 million under the cap. A Stafford restructure should put us at at least $15.
I saw roto world projected us to get Levitre from the bills. Their old Ex-OC is on our staff now so that could make some sense. Solidifying OG is key especially considering we will need to replace our center at some point.
Bush also seems to be heavily linked to us. Fits a lot of needs we have due to Best going down.
Lastly, I saw somewhere last week that we could have interest in Steve Breaston. He'd make a lot of sense as a slot guy to go along with Calvin and Burleson.

We are 8 million under the cap with the cap at 123 milloin.
Stafford or extension or there are other way to get money. Restructure Calvin/Tulloch 5 milloin and 2.9 million cutting Tyrell Johnson, Mike Thomas and Brian Robiskie. 15.9 million is alot to work with.

You have to remember that only a few teams ever spend to their cap limit. A contingency fund in case of crippling injuries, demands that some cap money be kept in reserve in case replacements are needed mid season.
Levitre and Bush would be an excellent FA period for me if Buffalo actually chooses to let Levitre leave.

Agreed on Bush and Levitre but I don't see them spending on Levitre.
Bush I see them pursuing. They'll try to retain Houston, Jackson and Sammie Lee Hill and Durant for sure IMO. Avril and Delmas depends how much they want/their market value and Delmas knees.

I'd rather go Rinehart OG Buf and Goldson Saf SF if I were going to sign outside of the franchise...

How about Brandon Moore, Louis Vazquez or Lance Louis if they can't get Levitre. Moore and Vazquez played well last year and can run block.

According to Ian Rapaport on NFL.com the Lions are strongly considering moving Reiff to guard.

Then re-sign Gos if they're so obsessed with the idea. He was good when he filled in for Backus last year, I don't know why they won't just let Backus go and re-sign Gos to keep them as book-end tackles for the immediate future.

Gos is looking at getting the same knee surgery over seas as Kobe and Bynum. I want none of that, especially considering the money he will most likely be looking for.
However, if they are serious about Reiff to OG then that would drastically change my opposition of Joeckel or Fischer at 5

Reiff would probably be a dominant OG, as he's a plus run blocker anywhere and would be a plus pass blocker at OG for sure IMO. I like the idea of Reiff and Sims at guard. The line was getting old, I wouldn't mind spending back to back 1st rounders on a G and a LT(a high and a low first respectively) if it came down to that.
