I got a Gen 4 Glock 21...gorgeous. My old man used to have a Sig Sauer but it was stolen. Now he has a .40 Beretta.
Seriously considering buying some type of rifle/shotgun.

Guns are bad.
Quote:
|
In 2006, firearms were used in 68 percent of murders, 42 percent of robbery offenses and 22 percent of aggravated assaults nationwide. (Weapons data are not collected for forcible rapes. See table 19 "Violent Crime," from Crime in the United States, 2006.)
|
And the Second Amendment is outdated and archaic. It was written in 1791 and the entire idea was that you should be able to use a gun to defend yourself and your community from forces of tyranny. This is 2012, a mob of citizens with pitchforks and handguns isn't going to stop ****. And guns are nothing but a negative force that only cause harm. Guns should be outlawed, no common citizen should have access to something so dangerous and inherently violent.

This is the internet. Ignoring stuff isn't possible. Everyone voices their opinion on everything... unfortunately.

I come from a huge gun loving family on my dad's side. Him, both of his parents and all his brother's and sisters have shot and hunted all their lives.
I hunted when I was younger until about 16 or so when I realized I'd much rather sleep in. I've shot 4 deer (2 does, a spike buck and an 8 point) and a turkey. More groundhogs and squirrels than I can count.
Also shot shotgun (trap and skeet) competitively as part of 4H program at the gun club my dad belongs to. Placed 2nd in the state competition and got to represent PA at the national event the following summer. I shot well by my standards but the competition there was re-*******-diculous. Just to place in the top 10 at any of the events, you had to shoot a perfect score and then get sorted out via tiebreakers. I placed dead middle...32nd out of 64 iirc.
I also shot cowboy action which was a hell of a lot of fun but it was too damn hot in those clothes in the middle of summer.
My dad has all of my guns for this stuff. I'm sure he'd give them to me if I asked but I just don't have anywhere I'd feel safe keeping them in my apartment. My hunting rifle is a .308, I've got an 1187 for hunting and a Winchester...I think 101 for competitive shooting. Also have a .22 and a pair of Ruger Vaqueros for cowboy action.
My dad has at least 50 guns...probably more now. He has one of those giant gun safes that can survive just about anything and it's overflowing. He has a couple of cheaper gun safes around the basement for some of the cheaper guns because they won't all fit in the big one. He also inherited all of my grandfather's guns when he died...at least another dozen or so. He and his brothers were going to divvy them up but it's been 3 years and it still hasn't happened yet.
One of those is a Colt Commander which is ******* sweet looking. If I were to get just one gun for self defense or what have you, I think I'd ask for that one. Plus it'd be something of my grandfather's to have.

i got to play with all of that stuff too! shooting is fun, but shooting on someone elses dime? awesome
ive got two ar15's. ones a .22 and the others a .556. i want to get an M1A (civilian M14 variant) but i have bigger things to worry about right now then spending money on a gun whose ammo will torch my savings haha

I've shot a number of guns (a friend is former Army and has a serious collection) but don't have one yet. I think I would be happy with just one handgun and one rifle or shotgun that I could go put rounds through occasionally and otherwise have on-hand for protection purposes. It is just kind of far down on the financial importance list right now.
What would you guys suggest as a solid, versatile, not-too-expensive handgun? I am ok w/9mm but might prefer .40. I also actually really enjoy shooting revolvers.
