Gronk Extension
Patriots agreed to terms with Rob Gronkowski on a six-year, $54 million extension.
Gronk has not only emerged as the most dominant all-around tight end in the game, he's also off to arguably the greatest start in NFL history at the position. The Patriots weren't going to lock him up at a discount rate even if he re-signed with two years left on his rookie contract. Source: Adam Schefter on Twitter Jun 8 - 12:23 PM

The fact that they got this done now likely means he's at or nearing full health.

I hope he stays off the bath salts. Imagine a naked 6'5 265 lb. Gronk running around trying to eat people.

Haha, Welker should stop crying so much and understand the position he's in.
I love this deal. I'm so glad that he's in NE for at least the next six years. Also, when this contract ends he's only 31 so he can get another good contract after that. Great deal for both parties.

He should feel great about this since this gives the Patriots a lot of flexibility after the 2013 season to extend him.

No disrespect to Hernandez, but he's not anywhere near the caliber of player that Gronkowski is. Hernandez certainly has a lot of room to get better, but Gronk just turned 23 and has already reached the apex of his position. He just finished his 2nd season and I honestly have no idea how he can get better. This extension was a no brainer for the Pats.

Agreed, this is best case scenario for Hernandez. Worst case would have been if the Pats gave Welker a 2-3 year contract and then tried to extend Gronk and then Hernandez.
This way they can try and extend or resign Hernandez in the next two years and if that doesn't work out they can franchise him.
This deal more than likely means this year is Welker's last in New England though, he is the big loser in this deal IMO

Both parties have made it clear that Hernandez is going to be extended as well. With as versatile as Hernandez is for us I don't see us letting him walk. The 2 TE system right now is killing NFL defenses so I don't see why we would change it up.

He's a true role model for the kids. If I ever have a son, I want him to grow up to be just like Gronk.
Smart move locking him up now. A lot of teams wait until the contract year just out of principle, but contracts are only going to get larger over the next few years. Even over the next 20 months or so, there's probably going to be some inflation. Also, I can't imagine him not earning every bit of that money unless he gets injured or goes all Shawn Kemp on us.
