Not really? Guess you haven't seen much of him. Definitely a guy that excels in the open field rather than between the tackles.

When all you bring up are guys known for speed you don't really have to discuss 40 times.

However it comes down to that we have opposing ideas as to what constitutes as elusiveness.

How about "hard to tackle in space?"

The video you posted only shows Sims running in a straightline. Very nice onecut back with good speed, but not real elusive.

There are other highlights out there but I guess you're right. He is more one cut with speed, great cuts but not as much of an elusive dancing type guy.

You seem pretty intent on interpreting this as a "best running backs" thread, which it's not intended to be. We're talking about returners, guys who run the screen play well, etc. Guys you get the ball to in space. Even guys like Ted Ginn have a place in the NFL, even though he's never developed into a top wideout. And it's because of what he does in the open field, when he's returning kicks, mostly - and it's mostly because of his speed.

McCalebb and Barner aren't guys who look like they'll carry the load as running backs. But they both have that hit-it-and-go mentality, and they have the speed and decisiveness to hit a seam in a broken field and take it the distance. That's what I'm talking about. It's not about who can handle "more on their shoulders" so much as who's the best in that particular scenario - where the field is broken already, regardless of what the original play was. Kickoffs, screens, tosses, options - We're talking about the guys whose specialty is working away from the line of scrimmage.

I get what your saying. I just disagree with the term elusive when discussing these players. These are straightline runners and nothing much else.

Dude, posted a video of Sims saying he had wiggle. I disagreed, and gave my evaluation of him. Didn't know that was against the rules of your thread. My bad.

A guy that I think would fit in this thread is Robbie Rouse, RB from Fresno State.

Rouse runs with surprising power, and has good vision in the open field. Very good open field runner. Not the fastest guy out there either.

Rouse kinda reminds me of MJD, more than Sproles. Rouse looks bigger than 185 to me.

Rouse is one guy I'm looking forward watching this year. With a good year, and strong workouts could be a 3rd round pick.

I played vs. Rouse in HS...kid is just sick. I remember there being a play that our D just blew up, and he juked out 3 of our LB's and then ran over our S and took it to the house. He's a HELL of an athlete.

Kid is gonna be a stud in the Pro's, even if it is just in that 3rd down role.

I see Rouse as a smaller Ahmad Bradshaw type. He's not quite as quick as Sproles nor powerful as MJD.

Fresno State is going to a spread Offense, so he might have more running room this year.

I've only seen one full game + highlights, but Rouse seems similar to Jaquizz Rodgers more so than Sproles.

I was thinking Brian Westbrook. Not the fastest guys, but quick. Small and compact runners who can catch the ball out of the backfield.

I'd love to see him against some better competition. Playing against mediocre competition all year and having an o-line that opens up holes as big as the ones I saw in that video as well as several pornos makes him look a lot better than he is. Who knows, maybe he really is something special, but he just looks like a guy who had a great passing game and o-line to help him get some big runs against a bad defense.

That works for me, too. Made me think of Ray Rice because of the bob-and-weave running style, compact build, hands, and the way he finishes runs. At least in that highlight video, it seemed like there were always two or three guys on him by the time he went down.

Are you talking about Sims looking good in pornos you've seen, or the holes in pornos you watch being several meters wide?

Either way, I raise my eyebrow at you.
