The whole this generation is so flawed thing, and the lack of TRUE/REAL JOURNALISTS IN THE WORLD. Plus, retroactively reporting a story and saying "the media so should have done it like this" is just ridiculous. I would probably have enjoyed the show a lot more if it came up with some fictional thing, but Christ was that over the top.

Well it appears that it doesnt mean a thing to me, given the fact that Im fairly depressed that I cant watch episode 2 at this very moment. Like, right now.
Also of note, I could listen to Emily Mortimer all day.
Also of also of note, a postscripts postscript so to speak, True Blood is such a complete mess these days. I dont think I like a single character in that show anymore. Even a cute british vampire did relatively nothing for me.

Yeah I can kinda get on board with some of that thinking. I think the show was a tad more preachy than I would have liked, but it's not something that will deter me from watching by any means.

does anyone watch Falling Skies? Whenever I see ads for it on TV, I think the concept is cool, but I've never watched it.

It's a decent show but the dialogue seems extremely formulaic

I'm with you on this comahan. I loved the first two seasons, started getting 'eh' the 3rd season, stopped watching halfway through the 4th season and haven't even thought about tuning in for this season.

Ok I finally watched Newsroom also last night. I thought it was very good and has serious potential but they do need to not report real news stories retroactively. It's going to be a problem all season now though because they've already timestamped themselves and can't just skip ahead 2 years to a "current" time.
I also don't agree about the flawed generation thing but the news these days is a lot different than what it used to be so Sorkin is right about that. The proliferation of cable news networks has changed everything in that regard.
I'm very excited for episode 2.

I watch Falling Skies, but if it was canceled tomorrow I wouldn't really care.

I guess that's how I feel. Though it seems like I enjoy it a bit more than most on this site.

I just don't have a connection to any of the characters. If any of them got hurt or killed I wouldn't really care.

I agree with Splat. It's a campy summer show that is somewhat entertaining, but if it stopped airing tomorrow it wouldn't bother me in the least.

And to the Newsroom: I'm pretty sure they're going to retroactively report every news story they do, I just don't think it will be an every week thing with a new breaking news story, that was just for the pilot.
Would I have prefered that they did this like The West Wing, and had made up each crisis (story) as we went along? Sure, but they chose a different direction and it really doesn't bother me that much.
Maybe this episode they were on top of the story and maybe down the road they aren't so quick to get it and it blows up in their faces. He could literally do anything he wants with it.

BSG is legendary. Gaius Baltar has one of my favorite story arcs ever in a TV series. The Crossroads episodes are some of the best TV (and my favorite) that I've ever come across.

Eh, it just takes the thrill out of it for me. I already know about these news stories. All it does is make it slightly more dramatized and gives them the ability to "know" everything. I don't mind if they decide to do some more episodes with retroactive news stories in order to build up to being present day. That'd be fine for me. But I honestly feel like the drama of the news stories will begin to subside. The BP oil spill was one of the craziest and most complex news stories of its kind. Can they really continue to make use old news stories which are that compelling? I'm unsure and it will be interesting to see if they try.
As long as they keep this format going forward I'm on board though. And by format I mean focusing on the stories themselves more than the outside "world" so to speak.
I liked it and will keep watching, but I'm hoping for a few changes. Daniels is great though. Really love him.
