I don't get what the context was, but this just makes him look bad.

Money doesn't make players any less stupid. In fact, I bet they've probably counted on making bank once they get to the league they haven't actually learned anything for years.
Dez Bryant will be broke in ten years, he's just that type of idiot.

beating the **** out of your own mother sounds way worse than smacking your cracked out hood rat of a mother with a baseball cap

Wait, so what happened? Did he throw a hat at her, or did he hit her and pull her hair?

Maybe this was the type of reaction Jeff Ireland was trying to illicit?
I guess Dez wasn't wearing a hat at the combine.

From what I heard, he pulled her hair and hit her in the face with a hat. That alone is ****** up to do to your own mother, no matter the circumstances, but the fact that during the 911 call she said something to the effect of "she can't handle him doing this anymore". The fact that this is a recurring problem is what bothers me more than anything.

I think Dez needs to cut off his mom until she gets help. I remember reading that she followed him to Stillwater during college and used to leach off him, the coaches even tried to intervene.
This issue is a lot deeper than most of us can comprehend. Angela Bryant is a drug addict and former prostitute, who now has a millionaire 23 year old son to help support her addiction. Don't pass judgment on how Dez is handling that unless you've dealt with those same issues yourself.

Now the question is, does he see a suspension?
Is this considered a first offense?

this this this this this this.
everyone is so quick to say "be a man" sometimes its not that easy when you have a dirty crackhead for a mom. This coming from someone whos mother was a heroin addict and DID cut her loose. Dez doesnt have a good head on his shoulders, mommy doesnt help though.
He apparently threw a hat at his crack head of a mom, of course she is gonna make it seem like he pummeled her into the ground...not to be saying poor dez, but i doubt he just walked in and beat the **** out of his mom

And that's why it's so hard to deal with these kind of issues. The son in him can't let her go, but there's only so much you can do.
It must kill him inside. I don't condone what he did either. These situations just suck all around. There's no winners, only losers.
It's tough. I wouldn't wish that situation on anyone.

Never draft a guy like that before they make it to training camp where he'll have more babysitting services available to him like it or not.

Bingo.
She's a joke of a "human being" and Jeff Ireland would have never ever asked him those questions about her if they weren't true.
He's done a good job making it as far as he has coming from her, and his father whatever that situation is......
But he's still a walking time bomb.

Bryant is genuinely stupid here. He needs to grow up fast and start making some good decisions, keeping a crackhead around you as an NFL player really has no positives to it, it just can't end well and he has the resources available to him to do what needs to be done...
He just keeps making moronic choice after moronic choice.
And I don't need to have had a crackhead mother to know that or know what the right choice is, there is a certain point where common sense needs to kick in when you are an adult and for Dez that time was a long time ago now and he just doesn't seem to get it, at all...
Use your brain... sometimes that saying is all you need to sum up a situation.

Yeah but it's his mom man! His mom!
I dunno, I don't know if I would have it in me. Nobody is a winner here. It's just a sad sad situation.

he forgot his shoes at the combine, got kicked out of a mall for having his underwear showing, was late on payments to a few jewelers, got detained at a nightclub when things got too rowdy, and now this which i cant see a way in which she didnt push him to his limits and he smacked her with a HAT...jesus what a rap sheet. I saw a thing on espn asking if we forgive athletes too fast, maybe we crucify them too fast. This is not a big deal, charges will be dropped she needs him and really probably jumped the gun there on calling for his arrest.

I have a very close friend who took the plunge and excommunicated her mom about five years ago, after 20 years of physical and emotional abuse to her and her younger brother. The hardest part was dealing with her good family members (people who were always there for her) who kept telling her "You need to call your mother." I suspect that most of them didn't know the full extent of what she went through, even though they had some idea.
I don't really have a point, here. It's just an anecdote.

Nobody wins as long as he stays in that situation. Dez has the chance to be a massive winner in life if he makes a good choice or continue getting dragged into this kind of thing if he doesn't.
It's his choice but he absolutely can win by getting himself out of this situation. If he chooses not to do that, then he needs to accept responsibility for awful decisions. The sad thing is that him enabling his mother, which is what it sounds like, isn't helping her either.

Cutting your mom out of your life isn't exactly a win. Even if it is better for you than letting her stay in your life.
