If you had the ability to build your own staff, from oc/dc/st to the positional coaches, who would make up your staff.

Assume you are the head coach of your team

You must pick staff members from other teams that are the same to the position they're coaching on your roster. Also you cannot have one then one assistant head coach on your coaching staff

I don't know enough about coordinators to do this well, but I've always though Norv Turner was a hell of an offensive coordinator, just a ****** head coach.

Weren't Norv Turner and Wade Phillips the OC and DC together on the Chargers? HTF did they not win a SB?

I didn't take more than one coach per team, and kept them in their current positions (so current head coaches excluded):

Offensive Coordinator: Scott Linehan (crap HC, but love his way to adjust and utilize complex passing schemes)

Quarterbacks: Wade Wilson (big part of Romo’s success)

Runningbacks: Chick Harris (Houston has done more with little at RB than any other team)

Wide receivers: Terry Robiskie (lots of good candidates, but Robiskie has done it a long time with success)

Tight Ends: Wade Harman (Lots of history of getting the most out of the talent available)

Offensive Line: Aaron Kromer (Another guy who bloomed later round projects)

Defensive Coordinator: Dick Leabeau (Consistency and experience)

Defensive Line: Robert Nunn (I’ll trust the Giants on this one)

Linebackers: Mike Singletary (Saw it up close and personal, and wow)

Cornerbacks: Kris Richard (tough to argue with his early success)

Safeties: Darren Perry (Feel like he toughens players up a lot)

Special Teams: Scott O’Brien (Another guy who has always risen to the top of ST)

Giants TE coach Mike Pope deserves to be mentioned. The man can teach anyone how to block at a high level and has done wonders on getting guys to overcome the dropsies. Shockey, Boss, Ballard and Pascoe are his most recent projects, All big raw guys who became excellent blockers thanks to Pope's tutelage and the later three became super reliable receivers, while Shockey's inconsistencies were beyond Pope's control, since the JS just couldn't understand Gilbride's option routes.

Some other former giants worth mentioning are Waufle, who developed Osi, Tuck, Kiwi and wOsi, and is just a phenomenal DL teacher, and of course Spags who's going to challenge Wade for the title of League's best DC this season.

Pope also coached Bavarro. His pedigree runs deep. He's widely known as the best TE coach in the league. Jason Witten was recently quoted as saying anyone who plays TE in the NFL knows who Mike Pope is.

Mike Wauffle should get more love. He molded Justin Tuck, he ressurrected Strahan's career, he molded Osi, Kiwi, wOsi. He went to Oakland and molded Lamar Houston. He's always been a great DL coach, and in my opinion, the best in the business.

Now he's in St. Louis and watch what he does with Long, Quinn and Brockers. They'll have a beastly DL and Wauffle will be a big reason for that.

I am far too lazy to go into all the positional coaches, but for coordinators, I'd go Rob Chudzinski for offense and Wade Phillips for defense. There is definitely some homerism with the Chudzinski pick, but the guy is an emerging head coach prospect for a reason.

Wade Phillips is easily the guy you want as your DC if you are running a 3-4. No brainer pick for me.

He did. I'm also very interested to see what he does with those RB/Tolbert this year. Some of Holgerson's Diamond is coming to the NFL, I think.

Chud is definitely one of the best emerging candidates, and I agree, I am already resigned to the fact that he is going to get a head coaching gig very, very soon, barring him being a horrible interviewer or something else strange like that. Admittedly, what makes a good coordinator does not necessarily make a good head coach, but watching the transformation he was able to accomplish with our offense last year was remarkable. Having Cam Newton certainly makes a lot of that possible, but at the same time he deserves credit for putting Cam Newton in the position to do things that he did last year.

Nah, it was Cam Cameron who was the OC during Phillips time as DC.

I'll just let you guys in on a little secret:

There is a reason why the Patriots have had amazing OLs for so many years. Trust me. Steven Neal (former college wrestler) didn't become an All Pro Right Guard by accident.

There is a really big reason why NE's backup OL go to be starters on other clubs.

His name is Dante Scarnecchia. I'll be honest. I'm kind of shocked Nate Solder is still struggling given Dante's ability to make OL achieve the most they can. Outside of that, the man is basically a miracle worker.

I don't know that I could get it down to the position coaches level, so I'll just say I'd let my coordinators pick their own assistants.

Head Coach - Me
Offensive Coordinator - Jay Gruden
Defensive Coordinator - Wade Phillips
Special Teams - Dave Toub

I like Gruden as a young up and comer. I don't feel like he'd force in a system, instead, building the system around the talent available. I was actually tempted to go with both Bengals coordinators (with Zimmer at DC) but Phillips always seems to be putting out top 10 defenses when he's the DC. I can't pass that up.

And Toub is just the man. I wish that Hester/Knox fake out punt against the Packers last year didn't get called back due to a penalty. It was one of the most brilliantly crafted and executed things I've ever seen in football. Very rare is the entire opposing team fooled by something.
