Mariners are playing good ball since the All Star break. They seem like they're set with the pitching both at the big league level and in the farm system. My guess is they will search for a legit first baseman and fast track catcher Mike Zunino to the majors, he's been excellant so far in his brief minor league career.
On a sidenote it's interesting to see all the differant opinions on shutting down Strasburg. Personally i don't know enough about the work load guys should be on after that type of surgery but i think they could have limited his innings or spaced his games out a little better so he could pitch in the playoffs.

160 innings is about right for someone coming off TJ at the Major league level, but I dont think that they were expecting to be in the battle to get to the series this year.
M's have been looking good also. I saw Zunino hit a bomb a week or so ago at his minor league game in Spokane. They do need to find themselves a LEGIT bat, and they have the prospects in the minor leagues to possibly make a trade for one...but do they give up Walker to do so?

The idea is that Montero and Smoak would turn into those 3/4 hitters. Montero may still develop to that point, but Smoak's ship seems to have sailed. He has a career 82 wRC+ in almost 1300 PAs in MLB.

I think the idea was for Montero and Smoak to be middle of the order guys but only Montero (DH) looks for real. Smoak isnt the answer and i think it's foolish for them to keep holding on to that idea.

Smoak is never going to be what people thought he was going to be, the M's need to get that through their heads fast.

My guess is they know that but are giving him this season just to make sure. Being a guy that Zduriencik dealt for in the Cliff Lee trade probably buys Smoak a little time but he's not the answer.
My guess is if they think they can somehow compete next year for a wildcard then they might spend the money for a first baseman in FA. With Ichiro gone there should be money there to spend.

The Ms need to invest in a ******** of left handed hitters. Being a righty in Safeco gets you nowhere.

They have Ackley, Seagar, Jaso, Thames and Saunders. Not murderers row for sure but there is pretty good balance up and down the lineup. Agree on Safeco for righties although the ball does carry a little better once the weather warms up a bit.

Well Seattle hasn't exactly been known for developing their hitting prospects lately.

He's way past that point by now. I really liked him a few years back.

He'll be fine. He only has around 800 MLB at bats and he didnt spend much time in the minors. The guy is good with the glove and runs well. I'm not worried about Ackley.

There is no way that there has ever been a rotation worse than Diamond/Deduno/De Vries/Duensing/Hendriks. There is just no way.

I don't think the Rockies even have a rotation.

Samuel Deduno throws almost a walk per inning, Cole DeVries has AA stuff, and Brian Duensing should be a long relief guy. Diamond is the only one who has shown anything and he's going to come down to earth a little eventually. We don't even really have any high end pitching prospects either.
