The new xx album is very disappointing. I wouldn't say it's bad, but I can't imagine any of the tracks making it onto the first album in terms of quality.

I only listened to it once or twice but I'll give it another chance. What has you concerned about their next album?
Muse-Showbiz.
Dub step experimentation. Who knows? Maybe they'll pull it off. They've used some in their live shows before and I liked it, so it's possible it won't be bad on the album. As long as they don't over-do it.
BBC is a really good live show. I saw them at Firefly and they were real impressive. I really like the dynamic of their band, great vocals with some real interesting melodies, both vocally and musically. If they keep up what they are doing, and continue to grow as musicians, we will be seeing a lot more of them over here in the US.

Been listening to The Lumineers a lot lately. Awesome band.
I get to see them in 2 weeks with Bon Iver! I'm seeing Lumineers, Bon Iver, How Water Music, Gaslight Anthem and Rise Against over two days at the beginning of September. I'm quite excited.
On another note, this video is filthy.

That's a modern classic right there. Hot Fuss is amazing. It's really too bad the Killers suck now. I just can't get into anything after Hot Fuss other than "When You Were Young".
The New Pornographers are a really cool band. Every time I've heard them I remain interested. I really should look into more of their music, would you have any recommendations of theirs? I may have heard a few of them already, but it'll act just as much as incentive for me to get more of their music.

They were on some program on VH1 this week when I was flipping through the channels, playing in the background during some award show thing where this woman in Joplin was working to help children deal with the losses suffered during the tornado that went through last year. The story itself, as well as hearing the song, choked me up. I just saw them a few weeks ago and I'm dying to see them again.

That is a great couple of days, I assume they are just two separate shows then? That is sick regardless.
And I saw the Black Keys play that at Firefly as well, and it was one of my favorite parts of their set. They are such a goddamn kickass live band. So glad they lived up to (and exceeded) my expectations.

I saw the Killers at Firefly, too, and of the headliners, it was my least favorite show. Nothing really stuck out to me at all about their performance, when I look back on it. I'm not a huge fan of The Killers, but their live show was very "meh" for me. And I heard they used to be even worse when they first started touring (around the time of this album as well). I do enjoy the album a lot, but they are overall a very mediocre live show. I would never pay to just see them, their ticket prices would be way too high to be a good value anyway.

Perhaps my favorite album of all-time. I don't listen to too much of the Killers anymore, but Hot Fuss was truly masterful.
