David Amerson got dragged up and down the field by the Vols. Giving up long bomb touchdowns one after the other and not being able to make the tackle on a reverse that scored despite having the angle. He looked terrible.

Looked like he's more fit to play in zone coverage. He's still a ball hawk though. Wouldn't be surprised if he got converted to safety.

I think Geno Smith is a lock first rounder.

Where would the Hurricanes be right now if they'd offered Smith a scholarship??

He may have more money at stake running at the combine than anybody else. The concern about him coming into the year was that his (impressive) INT numbers obscured a general lack of speed, which is something highlighted and underscored by his very poor performance against Tennessee.

Remember when we had Malcom Jenkins in the top 5, and then he ran a 4.5 at the combine, and was moved to safety after one year, and it's not like he's the kind of safety you would take #14 overall either (compare, say, Earl Thomas.) No one would be surprised to see Amerson follow that kind of career trajectory.

But if he runs well, a lot will be forgiven.

It's not just how fast Amerson can run in a straight line, it's about whether he has the movement skills to play cornerback in the NFL. Running a 4.4 would be great, but it's just one skillset needed to be a successful NFL corner.

There are plenty of safeties in the NFL with elite straightline speed who simply don't have the coverage awareness, ball skills, or hip flexibility to ever play corner.

Did Amerson get beat because of bad coverage reads against the Vols, or lack of athletic ability to get downfield in coverage?
I don't know and only saw highlights.
NC State QB Mike GLennon hurt himself more than any potential top prospect in that game IMO. THrowing 4 INTs is inexcusable for a QB who had a shot to go in the first round.

They did offer him a scholarship. He just didn't want to follow jacory Harris to miami
