Falcons off-season thread

Pretty happy for first game of the year on the road. Matt looked great, poised in the pocket, didnt get flustered when he had to move. The offense def. looks more potent, and maybe by just adding screens, Roddy had a big play on a screen, Julio with a TD and positive plays, just really liked the mindset Koetter had with his playcalling.

We scored on every offensive possesion except the 1 when it was garbage time just running the clock out. If the O-line can continue their good work we have way too many weapons to not put up points, great day for the offense other than Turner, hes just a slug back there.

The defense however was pretty frustrating. The things we needed to improve on going into this season was the pass rush, big plays and getting off the field on 3rd downs. Pass rush was almost nonexistent minus Abe a few times getting some pressure. Our 3rd down defense again was terrible and tbh it looked like a mirror image to BVG with the playcalling on D. Not a ton of blitzing, playing zones and getting picked apart by Cassell.

The 2nd half was much better in terms of forcing turnovers (3) which obviously was game killer for the Chiefs. Ill take it on the road for our first game and W, but they will need to get better against a prooven QB.

Peyton just admitted in the post game interview that he watched the falcons and they looked awesome. I think the key to victory will be getting to him.

Their defense did not impress me, especially on 3rd and long.

Should be a good one. Von Miller and Elvis Dumervil coming off the edge scare me though. Bailey will probably try to lock up Julio.

It'll be two great receivers against two very good corners regardless of who guards whom. More worried about protection, as you mentioned.

Agreed big time. Hopefully Nolan can figure out ways to pressure Manning b/c a solid steeler D sure didnt do very well at that.

That is terrible news. Grimes is a big time playmakers on the secondary. We simply don't have depth at the CB position to replace losing a guy like him.

I like Brent but never ''feel in love'' with him, He gets by because of his
intangibles not because of his playing skills, I'm not to worried about our
secondary now that we have Asante but I will say that Chris Owens
isn't a good choice for nickle.

Intangibles go hand in hand with playing skills. For the record, I think Grimes has a lot of playing skills, the real issue with him is size.

WTF. So now we play Manninf without Grimes and weaken an already thin secondary, every play Owens is on the field is a first down in the making.

Looking at this game from the perspective of a Broncos fan, here are some key questions:

* How well can the Falcons disguise their defensive intentions?
* Can your depleted secondary stick with a pretty good group of Broncos receivers?

Manning read the Steelers like an open book and cut them to pieces. It won't be as easy on the road, though, and the Falcons can take a close look at the calls from week 1. The no-huddle provides a lot of flexibility, but the trade off is that you are working with a limited set of plays. Decker, Stokely and Tamme are clearly in sync with Manning, but Demaryius Thomas is the really tough matchup for DBs (just ask Taylor and Polamalu).

* Can your OL handle the Denver pass rush?
* Will the Broncos have an answer to the triple threat of White, Jones and Tony G?

Miller and Doom were constantly held (or facemasked & held) by the Steelers. If that's any indication of how the calls are going to go this season, then it's definitely going limit the impact of our pass rush. I think Porter and Champ will match up well with your outside guys, but Gonzalez is going to rip a hole in the middle of the defense if it's left to the Denver LBs to cover him. I think we might see a lot of the big nickle package with the extra safety on the TE.

Anyway, it should be a good game and a great early season test for both teams.
