There seems to be a situation unfolding in Montreal during tonight's Monday Night Raw that involves Hall of Famer Jerry "the King" Lawler. There was a moment on commentary where both announcers went silent and Cole removed his headset. He then continued calling the match on his own, as the live crowd began chanting "Jerry, Jerry!" but almost immediately fell silent.
Arda Ocal is reporting that Lawler appears to have been convulsing, and then fell unconscious. He was then taken to the back by legitimate medical staff.

This is kinda weird. Michael Cole isn't commentating, which is understandable. Hes just sitting there, probably worried about Lawler.

I wonder if he's protesting going on with the show. My respect for him would go up about 1 million points if he was.

Its a thought, and my respect for him would go up as well. Although, I understand them going on with the show as well.

Cole isn't really protesting it, he just can't really make it through the show right now, which is understandable.

PWInsider reports that Jerry Lawler flew to Montreal from working weekend independent wrestling shows in Aruba so he did have a long day of travel before wrestling and working RAW. A fan at ringside noted that it sounded like Lawler began snoring right before he collapsed. Before that, Lawler communicated with a ringside employee. Lawler grabbed his arm and turned blue as he fell, which could be signs of a heart attack. EMT's and WWE doctors tended to Lawler immediately. His shirt was ripped open so they could begin medical assistance. Lawler was rushed backstage via stretcher and then taken to a local hospital via ambulance. After Lawler was taken away, the WWE ring crew quickly cleaned up at ringside as it appeared Lawler may have gotten sick before he collapsed.

Get well soon King.

I think this is the first time someone has kicked out of the Hart Attack in Montreal.

So, I heard what happened to Lawler. Very sad...I hope he bounces back from this.
But it begs the question...why was he in the ring in the first place? It's one thing to have a side match between two old timers or something, but he was in there with 3 guys in their prime.

Man, that first update by Cole was scary. I was fearing we were going to see another Owen Hart update thing
Good to hear that Jerry is recovering and props to Cole for keeping it together and providing updates throughout the show. You could tell how shaken up he was

Yeah that's very scary.

Update 9/11/12: It has now been revealed by WWE.com and Jerry Lawler's girlfriend, Lauryn Laine McBride, that Lawler indeed suffered a heart attack last night at the announce table. This matches eye-witness accounts of Lawler clutching his arm before he fell out of his chair.
Smith Hart, first son of Stu Hart, also tweeted that his friend who was backstage, Jeremy Prophet, told him that Lawler was clinically dead for 20 minutes and had to be brought back to life with defibrillators.
Get well, Jerry.

As weird as it is, it's probably a good thing he suffered this in that setting(not good he suffered it at all but since it happened, you get the point). He was able to get immediate help and care from professionals on the scene, which is likely what saved his life
If he was at his own home or something, we'd likely have another wrestling death

True. He was dead for 20 minutes with professionals there. No way he'd survive if he was at his house. I still think we've seen the last of the king. I don't think he can come back his brain was without oxygen for 20 minutes...

I think "being clinically dead" is being stretched a bit here. If his brain was really without oxygen that long, he'd for sure be 100% brain dead. I've heard that 5 minutes is all the more you could go without suffering brain damage.
What they probably mean is that his heart wasn't beating for 20 minutes, but if CPR was being performed the entire time, his brain still would have been getting oxygen.

Michael Clarke Duncan went like 5 minutes or something and he pretty much never recovered.

I tohught Cole handled that situation perfectly.having no commentary on the Rhodes/Mysterio match was IMO the right thing to do

Im no medical professional, but there is no way he was legally dead for 20 minutes or revived with a defibrillator. A defribilator, contrary to how it is used in movies and television, doesnt shock a stopped heart back into life. Im fairly certain it actually stops a heart that is not in proper rythym, shocking it back into resetting itself. Additionally, being dead for 20 minutes andcoming back is impossible. Consider the source. With all that said, he shouldnt have been wrestling and shouldnt hav e been for year, but the most important thing is him being healthy. Just gotta hope for the best.
I can't stand when Cena does what he did last night. He always goes after other guys in promos for not being themselves and turning on people and not holding onto a single character/ideology. Basically he insulted punk for being a wrestler. Everyone else turns and switches gimmick. Cena is the only one that doesnt so he can use that on anyone. I know fans in the arenas seem to cheer it every time as a good point, but its just ******** to me.

Lawler wrestles quite a bit outside of WWE. I doubt anyone thought twice about him being capable in the ring.
