Default Weird Question Regarding Facemasks/Facemask Penalties
Why do they exist?

Doesn't it make more sense to evolve the helmet so that you can't grab onto any part of it?

Why do some players wear facemasks like these and others don't?



They could go even further and make some kind of metal mesh covering the mouth area.

And finally, how would it change the game if facemask penalties became obsolete?
