Default Collin Klein QB - KSU

I figure he deserves his own thread. The past two seasons two lesser known QBs have come out of relative obscurity - Newton came to Auburn from the JUCO Ranks after not doing anything at UF and carried his team to the NC and Griffin was a known commodity among the more serious college football fans and draftniks but receieved a huge push in popularity his last season at Baylor due to his play (and lets be honest an ESPN hype job as well).

Klein is another under the radar QB talent. If he progresses and shows growth in the passing game I think he has a chance to really move up draft boards. I won't go as far as to say he will be a top 5 QB pick but I think he can make the jump from a late round developmental QB up to the 2nd - 3rd round range. He has the size, arm strength and athleticism teams seem to covet in the position. His mechanics were made over in the offseason and so far he has shown marked improvement as a passer.

He sucks because KState is the worst place in the world. That is all.

Klein is nowhere near where he needs to be to become an effective passer in the NFL. Tim Tebow with better mechanics, so in that regard Klein is a nice developmental prospect.
Klein doesn't have a great feel for diagnosing coverages or going through progressions from the few games I've seen him play.

IMO whoever takes Klein should take an 'old school' approach towards his development; let him carry a clipboard for 3-4 years, run the scout team offense and in a few years see what you've got.

Cam Newton was an anomaly, you don't see guys go to the most competitive conference in the country and dominate running and throwing the football in only one season.

RGIII had thrown over 1100 passes in college games and was much more refined than most draftniks had originally thought.

Collin Klein still isn't much of a threat as a passer, but with his tools and athleticism he could surprise down the road and pay off big for an NFL team with a long view towards developing him.
