PLEAZZZ, PLEEZZZZ don't get rid of the replacement refs now!!
They're a traveling rock show, the NFL's version of Harlem Globetrotters.

The most epic NFL season ever!!!lol

Nothing better than seeing a losing player bite his tongue about how bad the refs blew the game.

Even some of the guys on NFLN are calling it an obviously blown PI call and INT.

First of all, if you're going to write out all the zeros you don't put the "k" after as well, otherwise you're saying they want $200,000,000.

Secondly, I do not give a **** what you pay them, just get them back. If the refs aren't getting that money the billionaire owners are pocketing it.

maybe they should be paid more than that considering the NFL's alternative is to hedge the fate of their multi-billion dollar enterprise on the island of misfit toys.

Why is the NFL being cheap? Don't they want a better product? I want full time officials.

my bad on the k, but in a nutshell here's the problem:

1. Retirement Benefits and Pensions

- This is the number one biggest issue. The NFL wants to give all the referees a fixed retirement package for when they retire. The referees want it to be a percentage of the profits since they see the NFL as growing.

2. Salary

They make 150k right now, as i said before they want 200k.

3. NFL wants more officials

3 more crews than normal. The other refs don't want that because then they get paid less and they could get replaced if they suck.

4. full time vs. part time

the nfl wants 7 members to become full time employees. to train recruits, scout, and do other things referees do, but year round. The ref union doesn't want that because it forces some of them to have to quit their other full time (weekday) jobs and lose the income and benefits they get from that.

So the NFL isn't the complete monster here. The refs are being as unreasonable as the NFL.

Also, it's easy to say just pay the refs since the NFL makes so much godddamn money but then you don't really understand business. What union ever gets exactly what they ask for?

I do understand the NFL's side, but as a fan I don't care.

But taking a look from the NFL's perspective even, is it really worth it. It's still such a small percentage of the revenue to give up. All this backlash from the media, fans, players, and coaches isn't worth the couple million they'd lose by caving to the refs.

this was all before the NFL was exposed for being incapable of finding a reasonable way to replace them. they are absolutely necessary for the product to be sustainable, maybe the sport will remain wildly popular and continue to grow in spite of how shittilly the games are being officiated, but i like to believe that the integrity of the sport at least has some effect long-term.

their requests did seem unreasonable until we saw how essential they apparently are to the sport when you compare them to the current scabs they have making a mockery of the fans who waste their time getting emotionally invested in the outcome. you say the refs are being unreasonable, i say that they should be compensated even more than the players if they are going to be the ones who are in total control of the game like we saw tonight.

goodell has no leverage right now, he is just a stubborn **** trying to milk his cash cow, not that it is any different than what we have come to expect from the big three commissioners.

I used to them a lot when I was 17 or 18. I remember my friends and I called a Barnes and Noble and asked the clerk if they had any books by Clayton Bigsby. When she asked for titles, I gave them to her (you know them, not saying typing them) and she actually looked them up in the database. It was the only time I couldn't keep it together during a call.

...huh. I know I'm not in the least bit knowledgeable about the details of the matter, but a compromise solution is staring me right in the face.

Problem 1: Presuming the asked-for percentage is a reasonable number (I'm thinking SOMEWHERE in the 1-5% ratio), this seems like an easy thing to give to the refs.

Problem 2: Again, an easy thing for the NFL to accept, considering a ref is going to only make about a third or so what your average mimimum-salary player will make. In fact, I'd go a little further just to ensure that the bottom two problems are fixed in the NFL's favor. I figure 250k to fix...

Problem 3: A larger salary than what they are asking for should help the refs swallow a bit of a bitter pill which is a slightly diminished overall profit and a potential loss of job status due to inability to perform adequately. This along with...

Problem 4: It would stand to reason that the refs who will be performing this job full-time should naturally be given more than those who will still be part-time, right? A large enough figure to off-set the loss of their other income, right? And if these 7 are naturally going to be the cream of the crop, then it stands to reason they should at least get 300k for all their troubles, if not higher.

It looks ike he did it on purpose too, it was 1 foot in front of him running his route.

I don't even see a point in watching these games. I will watch the Colts but I won't be watching any more games until the real refs return. And not just to "boycott". I don't find enjoyment in this bull**** any more than I find it when something unrealistically stupid happens in a Madden game. It's not real NFL football to me.

The refs were just as bad in the Packers/Giants playoff game last year but certainly not the same outrage.
