Meh, PSH has done better and I wouldn't consider him award worthy for this really.

I found there was a quiet madness to his portrayal of Lancaster Dodd that I loved. I mean I loved his freak out moments obviously but I thought he was at his best when he was attempting to restrain the beast in him. I think he did a pretty tremendous job actually. He was just as much in touch with his primal nature as Freddie yet his did his best to hide that, often times overcompensating to do so. It is when the two are alone that I feel like Dodd feels like he is aloud to be himself because in Freddie he sees someone who I think he almost wishes he could be.

I disagree with that. I think Peggy Dodd was pulling a lot of his strings in the first place, and Lancaster was humbled for that reason.

A valid point but I would disagree. Peggy may have pulled some strings but I don't think Dodd was humbled by that and I don't think she was pulling as many strings as you suggest.

I disagree. What i found so fascinating was this unrestrained wildness that he was keeping within and covering it with his immense wit and charm. I just loved how he was mirrored by Freddys outer mania in a way.
What I think PTA does that is so great is that where another filmmaker would have Lancaster have a conversation where he reveals his true beliefs and intentions, PTA leaves you deciding for yourself who he truly is. How much of his affection for freddy is a result of a desire to validate his work and how much was true sympathy and desire to help? How much of the cause is just bs that hes making up or did it start as some genuine belief system or desire to help others?
I found the movie and both actors performances to be absolutley remarkable and award worthy. PTA always leaves you with so many powerful shots that are so beautifully framed and meticulously designed.

I completely agree with you. I had huge expectations for this movie. It blew me away in ways I was not expecting. Paul Thomas Anderson truly is a master and both Hoffman and Pheonix deserve awards.

So I just watched Requiem for a Dream the other day for the first time.
That's the darkest and most disturbing movie I've seen in a long, long time.

Me and my dad watched Dredd on Friday. For what it was, it wasn't half bad. It's not going to be winning any oscars or golden globes but it was entertaining I thought.
The problem I had though was there was no emotion to dredd. the girl was hot though. (Olivia Thirlby)
I'm still planning on watching end of watch and looper

Finally saw Thor and The Avengers. Thor wasn't as good as I thought it would be but I was still entertained. Avengers lived up to the hype.

So I'm really loving frequently asked questions in time travel. Should've watched this movie long ago.

So Matt Reeves is taking over the Planet of the Apes sequel. I like it. Reeves has got some talent...big fan of Cloverfield and the Let Me In reboot. I actually think Neil Blomkamp would have been perfect for this sequel, but Reeves is a great director.
Speaking of Blomkamp...Elysium sounds awesome.

Matt ******* Damon.

Planet of the apes is the stupidest ******* concept for a movie. It just bothers me so much that they have that many movies about apes taking over the world. Just too much of a stretch for me to buy into.
