Royce White talks with ESPN.com's Myron Medcalf about his decision to miss the start of the Houston Rockets' training camp while he tries to work out a deal that would allow him to travel to some games by bus.
Before he's willing to start training camp, Houston Rockets rookie Royce White wants the team's permission to travel to some games by private bus, the former Iowa State star told ESPN.com on Wednesday night.
White's fear of flying, he said, magnifies his anxiety disorder. So he's asked the Rockets to let him use a bus for some of the team's extensive road trips. White said he's willing to purchase the bus and assume liability.
White Busing to games, he said, is a vital component in the treatment of his anxiety.
White, who missed the team's media day on Monday and the start of training camp in McAllen, Texas, on Tuesday, said he hopes to reach an agreement with the team soon. He said he expects to join his teammates within "a week," if talks with the Rockets continue to progress.
"What it's going to look like is every game that's drivable, I'm going to get a bus for myself," White said. "And I'm going to make that bus feel like home so that there's a level of consistency in a job where inconsistency is very apparent because of the schedule. I'm going to try and level that out and make sure that my stress levels stay low and that my rest is regular and that my meals are regular and that as much as I can, draw consistency from a very inconsistent schedule. ...
"People with mental illness, one of the most important things is that they have that consistency and routine. The girth of (my request) was, 'Can I travel by bus to close enough games?' "
|
I feel for Royce, but why wasnt this issue addressed BEFORE camp? He's a rookie so therefore his ass should be in camp day one.

I guess this wasn't as easy to figure out as they imagined. It sounds like a clusterfuck.

You know who's not afraid of going on an airplane?
The Knicks.
Get scared when we come off the bus.

Makes me think of Jesus Navas, he's got the Charlie thing going where he starts to feel terrified and uncomfortable once he leaves Sevilla.

Just need ONE DAG NAB PERSON to fill out our Fantasy Basketball league. We're gonna have an auction draft soon, likely possibly this Saturday at 9PM.
Here's the team we need taken over:
PF/C Amare Stoudemire $94
PF/C Pau Gasol $87
PG/SG Kemba Walker $5
PG Jameer Nelson $3
SF/SG Omri Casspi $2
SF/PF Shawn Marion $2
PG/SG J.J. Barea $1
PG/SG Beno Udrih $1
SF/SG John Salmons $1
SF Corey Brewer $1
PF Udonis Haslem $1
PF Hakim Warrick $1
PF/C Drew Gooden $1
Pick up to three keepers, or none, and take their price out of $200 for your budget for the Auction. It's a 20 team league and players can't be kept more than twice. Someone join. PM me. We can hump.

Your draft is during prime time college football. I'd probably do it otherwise.

please do, that time is dumb, and should be moved. I'm arguing to move it in the other thread

I like players like Dequan Jones. Dude was a big time 5 star recruit, who didn't even start at Miami. Busted pretty hard, but Damn he's an impressive athlete, looks good early for Orlando.

Wow Nash is an unbelievable passer. Its crazy to watch a PG with a pulse in purple and gold.

I was just thinking the same thing. If he can make Sacre look this good, I can just imagine what he's going do with Howard. Too many jumpshots with the second unit though. Waiting to see how Jamison, Meeks, and CDR look.

Ron Ron looks like he's in great shape. If he can consistently knock down those tres like he's doing, its going be a nightmare for other teams to guard us. And Jordan Hill is a MF balla. So glad we re-signed him. Need to see some of Meeks, CDR, and Clark. Ebanks looked ok.

He'll get plenty of open looks....especially when he's on the floor with Nash. Just a matter of him knocking them down at a respectable clip. Stroke looks good so far...

If I'm an opposing defense going against that Lakers lineup I'd take Artest threes all day
