We've seen coaches hired from Stanford and Rutgers in recent years to the NFL. I don't think Northwestern is really that big of stretch.

A surprising little amount of talk about Ray Horton, realistically he should be everyone's #1 candidate which sucks as the Cardinals defense and offense will be horrible next year

He's being the name discussed the most probably. Another name to throw out there is Brian Schottenheimer.

If Rex gets fired, I think I want Ray Horton as the next jets HC. They would probably go for an offensive guy though.

Speaking of Schottenheimer, would Marty ever be interested in a comeback, and would teams ever be interested in him?

Not sure if serious.
This is the guy who couldn't do anything with the Jets offense, calls 3 straight completions yet still has to punt...
There are like 100 names ahead of him. I'd rather hire Marty Schottenheimer than him.

I think Jay Gruden will be around for a year or two then move on. Hope we can retain him for longer but I doubt it. Zimmer will hopefully be our HC in the future, or Jay will if Zim goes elsewhere.

From what I have read the higher-ups in the NFL really like Schotty and don't blame the Jets struggles on him.

I feel that many "higher ups" in the league know as much as a causal fan does, maybe less.

Of course they like him. Nepotism runs rampant in the NFL. He comes from a "football family" and "grew up around the game."

Chiefs Offseason To-Do List:
1. Hire Brian Schottenheimer as their Head Coach.
2. Trade for Mark Sanchez.
3. Use the first overall pick on a 3-4 DE.

Supposedly, he scared some teams off in interviews last year by being too forward and honest.

Sanchez is good. Fits the Chiefs QB profile of guys that have a limited ceiling and are off of the scrap heap/out of the retirement home/only have one year of starting experience.
They should also trade for Jimmy Clausen and Blaine Gabbert. Because those guys could be good. Or something.

FYI, from the things I've read over the past year, Vic Fangio reportedly isn't interested in becoming a head coach. Wants to stay as a DC.
49ers OC Greg Roman I don't know about. Hopefully he's content like Fangio, but I doubt it.

One person has mentioned him, and it's not from my personal liking of him but from what I've read. This is where reading comprehension comes in handy.

No thanks to Ray Horton. I have enough of inexperienced coach to take over Jets' HC. Edwards, Mangini, Ryan and then Horton? Forget it.
Vic Fangio is the exact what Jets need. He has tons of experiences and is a disciplinarian.

I'd be fine with Fangio too.
But I think the Jets would go with an offensive minded head coach if we fire Rex anyways.

Who cares. Hundreds of successful coordinators failed at head coaching job.
Scottenheimer knows football. Big knocks on him is he worked with inexperienced head coach in Mangini and Ryan. He finally works with Jeff Fisher who is a veteran head coach this year.
Also, offensive coordinator and defensive coordinator have to be good hires under Scottenheimer to run the team successfully. That is all Scottenheimer has to do. Calling plays is not his best suit but managing the team should be his best suit.

Tom Clements? I can't think of any else with abundant experience. That sucks.
I forget about Scott Linehan. I am not sure if he can do it.
